The killing of 27 people in Newtown, Conn., has focused the nation's conversation on the issue of gun control. Legislators have announced they will revisit the federal ban on assault weapons which expired in 2004, while also looking to prohibit high-capacity magazines and to close loopholes that allow buyers to purchase firearms at gun shows without a background check.
However, mental health experts say there is something Congress must do immediately to keep the country safe and it has nothing to do with gun control–avoid the fiscal cliff.
The federal government has already cut public mental health services in the U.S. to the tune of $4 billion over the past five years and closed 4,000 psychiatric beds since 2008.

Just like when paramedics arrive on the scene of an accident. The person who is in the worst condition,or who appears to be the worst is treated first. There is always an appropriate order in which to do things, the proverbial first step. All eyes should be on the fiscal cliff first. After that is resolved the remaining problems can be addressed.
Too bad republicans represent Grover Norquist and not the people

Too bad you can't understand that this country is broke.
the regime doesn't give a rat's ass about mental health programs, their driving obsession is disarming the american people and creating a new and improved constitution that will no longer restrain them. the democrats believe that communism is the ideal form of government that will "fix" all that they perceive to be wrong with this country. the democratic party is now little more than a cancer that is bent on destroying this country and effectively imprisoning the american people in their new socialist utopia. there is only one way to deal with cancer, you have to kill it, or it will kill you.
And that's why raises are given.
Wait, what?
10:55 Im sure there is at least one bed still open with your name on it. You seriously need help. Your paranoid and delusional ramblings are flags waving in the breeze. Please check yourself in.
