NRA calls for armed police officer in every school
WASHINGTON — The nation’s largest gun-rights lobby called Friday for armed police officers to be posted in every American school to stop the next killer “waiting in the wings.”
The National Rifle Association broke its silence on last week’s shooting rampage at a Connecticut elementary school that left 26 children and staff dead.
“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” the group’s top lobbyist, Wayne LaPierre, said at a Washington news conference.
LaPierre said “the next Adam Lanza,” the man responsible for last week’s mayhem, is planning an attack on another school.
“How many more copycats are waiting in the wings for their moment of fame from a national media machine that rewards them with wall-to-wall attention and a sense of identity that they crave, while provoking others to try to make their mark,” LaPierre said. “A dozen more killers, a hundred more? How can we possibly even guess how many, given our nation’s refusal to create an active national database of the mentally ill?”
He blamed video games, movies and music videos for exposing children to a violent culture day in and day out. “In a race to the bottom, many conglomerates compete with one another to shock, violate, and offend every standard of civilized society, by bringing an even more toxic mix of reckless behavior and criminal cruelty right into our homes,” LaPierre said.

Will never happen. We can't afford to fund our schools for instructional materials and qualified staff, especially if it is left up to the county to do it. I just can't see the feds putting up 5 billion to do this with all of the other economic issues going on.
I hate to say it but once the media moves on to the next story, this will all go away.
He makes a point about how people and things such as money can have armed security but not children at school. I know for a fact that there are ways into schools and so do many others that even work at them. I agree with some sort of trained qualified people being there if the police are not. It is all smoke and mirrors that everybody is safe anymore and when people wake up and SEE, maybe things will change for the better. I believe in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and YES people do have the right to bear arms....NO question! People need education about firearms and respect for them. They are merely tools and need to taught how to use safely and correctly just like any dangerous tool.
mental issues among police officers is equally as bad as the bloke on the street, maybe more so.

Agreed, and I would bet most of it stems from hiring returning war vets with their mental issues such as ptsd.
Of course, one has to be a little crazy to be a cop in the first place.
a teacher in every gun shop? an armed guard at every nursery school, at every mall store, at every church, at every eating establishment? How long are we going to allow the NRA to ruin this country?
4:04,
God bless the NRA, and to answer your insipid, muddleheaded question, we need the NRA as long as we have morons trying to destroy the Bill of Rights!
For education, which you obviously lack, the Bill of Rights is the first 10 amendments to our constitution. The founding fathers thought these rights to be so important that they needed to amend the constitution by stating these RIGHTS in no uncertain terms. They wanted, as do intelligent people today, for law abiding citizens to have the means to defend themselves, from among many things, government tyranny.
404-The NRA isn't ruining this country, 50 years ago you could buy a hunting rifle, without a permit or license, in a hardware store on every main street in America. Funny thing though, there weren't this slaughters happening then. What's wrong with America, is our society is on a downtrend, and has been for some time. Happens with all the empires, usually before things completely collapse.
When it does collapse? I'll have mine at the ready. Those without, will experience the same results as the Soviet frontline troops, who were sent into battle without ammunition. Human shields, at best.
Yes, we live in the days of lawlessness as in the Wild West days; History always repeats itself.
So we either give each law abiding citizen a six shooter or place an armed staff member in each school.
Mr. LaPierre also stated that the NRA would offer to train staff members to carry and for hostage and other crisis situations...for free. But, since that made perfect sense, the Media never picked that up and ran with it. The perfect solution is never reported on; just the bad ideas or name calling.
Take a wide sweep with an assault rifle at an NRA rally and have them sort out the facts later. Then tell me an armed guard would have had things done differently
libs gotta love any idiot who thinks the government is here to help them! or better yet save them!
Lmmfao!

If you think we live in lawlessness now, you have quite a shock coming. If everyone were armed there would be less 'lawlessness'.
If I thought someone had a gun on him, I would leave him alone. Wouldn't you?

That's just an ignorant statement.
A wise man on
ce said sacrificing freedom for security will end up with neither.
Anyone notice what the teachers response to this idea has been? Overwhelmingly? I'll let you find out for yourselves, but you shouldn't be surprised.
