Troopers Investigate Car Crash Into House

Blades, DE- The Delaware State Police are investigating a crash in which a car struck a house.

The incident occurred early Thursday evening around 8:05 p.m., as Nicholas Raneri was operating a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer westbound on Airport Road just west of Brickyard Road. Raneri drove the Blazer off the south side of the roadway, crashing into a residence located at 9636 Airport Road. Flames began to come out of the vehicle which then ignited the house on fire. The homeowners, a 78 year old female and her 73 year old husband, heard the crash and were able to exit the residence unharmed. Raneri was also able to exit his vehicle, but suffered minor injuries and was transported by EMS to Nanticoke Hospital.

Raneri was cited for Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Inattentive Driving, and Failure to Have Insurance in Possession.

Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is conducting the investigation into the fire which was brought under control by Blades Fire Company. The house and a vehicle parked in the carport were reported as a total loss.
