Horse-Drawn Carriages Could Be In OC This Fall

Ocean City might soon join Berlin, as well as some other major U.S. cities, in offering horse-drawn carriage rides as a winter attraction.

The City Council heard a proposal Tuesday from Randy Davis of R&B Ranch, the same ranch that provides carriage service in Berlin, to solicit horse-drawn carriage rides along the Boardwalk and in downtown Ocean City during the off-season.

Davis’ plan would have carriages departing from the inlet lot and going north on Baltimore Avenue, then turning at Division Street and coming back down the concrete tram lane on the Boardwalk. The carriages would be run only during times when the tram is not.

There have been many problems with carriage horses in placed such as NY. The stables don't take care of them and work them to death. In a matter of 2 weeks 3 horses died while working. They are now trying to replace the horses with replica vintage cars in NY. Most of the time when people use animals to make a living the money is more important then the animals themselves. I think this is a very bad idea.

I also think this is a great idea.It certainly helps make O.C.a better attraction in the off season.i hope the people putting up the money to do this do well and their business is an overwhelming success.

Uh, when the trams are not running, what's open the that makes a buggy ride attractive? Maybe the Cork Bar but I'd probably just park outside the door rather than pay for a ride there.

I think there's a reason why the Tram stops running.

5:49 I've seen this horse in Berlin also. It is very well cared for and it's obvious that the man takes great pride in his operation. To him his horse is not only his pet, but something he has invested alot of money in to train so he is not going to do anything or allow the horse to be harmed or mistreated in anyway.
Maybe in NY they've allowed anyone and everyone including non horsepeople to operate these buggies and care for the horses and that's not good.

Okay, Okay, look! We hitch up a whole team of horses, no! RACEhorses, and hook 'em all up to the tram cars and call it the "SupersonicTramRacer! Zooming bar customers from bar to bar! No! We make TWO and have them time their runs between the bars! Hey! How about we put sand tires on them and run them at the surfline blasting in and out of the water!
