Soldier Returns To Salisbury From Afghanistan

Just to let you know--several folks attended for the first time to help welcome in the returning Marine last night at the airport and said they came because they "saw it on Joe's blog". Thanks~

Publishers Notes: While last night was a wonderful celebration and all of us were able to thank this young man for his service, I was truly disappointed in the lack of Public Officials who did not attend. Of course Council President and Vice President Terry Cohen and Debbie Campbell were there, thank you. Rick Pollitt, Mike Lewis, Matt Maciarello, County Council, Mayor and so forth did not attend, some of which live right down the street from the Airport.

On a better note, those who did attend truly wanted to be there and I thank all of you for taking the time to do so.

Joe,
Thanks for posting. Great turnout!!Several VETS there as well as several of the "Dirty Dozen". Mikey might want to change "Dirty Dozen" to "Caring Dozen".

What a wonderful thing, welcoming home returning vets! Thanks for sharing pictures, Joe, so that everyone can share in the moment!

Who organizes these welcomes? They are to be commended, too.

anonymous 11:16, Yes, I did attend and took the pictures. The plane was delayed and we were all there quite late. It was well worth it.

Thanks for asking.

Joe, before judging others for not being there one should know how this was promoted and if any elected officials got notified to attend.

anonymous 11:48, I beg to differ with you. I have had this event published for two weeks and one thing is absolutely for sure, Matt Maciarello, Mike Lews, Rick Pollitt read Salisbury News like there's no tomorrow. More to come...

Although I wasn't there, a big "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TU US" to the returning Marine.

My brother is on his 3rd overseas tour right now and has been lucky enough to be able to come home a few times. I don't think he ever cared that there were no local 'celebrities' there to greet and thank him. Also, i do not want to put words in anyones mouth but I cant believe the young man returning home really cared that much about who wasn't there. I think that a lot of these 'events' crop up around election time and serve only as a way to have some dirt to sling. That being said a HUGE Thank You to all of those serving right now. I'm grateful that you are doing a job that i know i could not.
Have a great day everyone. Stay cool. :-)

12:20 TDT?? The Daily Times??
These "events" have been going on for some years regardlees of the time of year. It starte3d with We Care About Wicomico County and some of us called the "Dirty Dozen". When notified of a returning Vet, we tried to get the word out to Vet organizations as well as Joes blog. Those returning may not notice or care about who is not there" but the community sure takes notice. As to your comment "some dirt to sling",get real!! I must admit though, there may have been some dirt in the air as there were tears in more eyes than just the famly. USN-RET

Maciarello, Lewis, Pollitt, etc. are too into themselves to be there Joe. If it's not about them, you know they won't be there - their heads are way too big for anything like that.
