White House Says Fill Jobs With Veterans

If agencies have job openings, they should fill them with veterans. That's the message the White House is sending agency heads in a new memo. Office of Personnel Management Director John Berry tells deputy secretaries that agencies should meet their 2012 goals, despite budget cuts or hiring slowdowns. He directs them to examine their strategies for recruiting veterans and helping them transition to civilian life. Berry asks the leaders to personally monitor their agencies' veterans employments efforts. President Obama has made hiring veterans a key goal of his administration. Twelve percent of recent vets are unemployed.

More divide and create infighting among the population. Look, I hire veterans and non veterans alike. I will consider anyone who applies for the job. How do I choose who to hire? I do it the old fashioned way; by skill level and qualifications for the work at hand. I really don't care what color, race religion, or whatever else about them. If they have the skill, a work ethic, want to learn more, and can do the job, it's theirs as long as we can agree on salary.

Obama, don't legislate or subsidize who I hire. I AM running my business, NOT YOU!

The jobs that should be filled by veterans are Senators, Congresspersons and, most especially, the Presidency.

First off, nobody can direct 100% hiring of any group vets or not. Secondly, there may be 12% unemployment of vets now but it's going to get far worse until this economy gets turned around. Lastly, an unchecked lame duck President is the last thing this country needs with the economy as bad as it is.

once again folks are trying to tell folks who to hire. what happened to hiring the best qualified for the position. the government is already full of incompetent folks, don't need more.

Quite a lot of our military are highly skilled. Unfortunately, the Government does little to prepare them when the exit military service. What I mean by this is that many vets can describe their skills in military terms that employers can't relate to. I know because I used to rewrite vet resumes specifically because of this.
