Pennsylvania Republicans just blasted away local control over oil and gas drilling—potentially jeopardizing residential neighborhoods, watersheds, and even school zones.
Pennsylvania's fracking front lines have just been redrawn.
At first glance, the sweeping new law signed this month may seem a good deal for local communities. Over the next 15 years, the state is projected to rake in between $190,000 to $355,000 per gas well; 60 percent of that will go back to counties and municipalities, with the rest going to a state-managed fund for infrastructure projects. Proponents in the Republican-controlled Legislature insist that the law levels the playing field for industry, while rewarding counties.
But fracking can be a messy and dangerous business, and locals complain that the law takes control away from citizens who have battled hard for local decision-making.
Watch the video and you'll see a tale of two Pennsylvanias: The first one, recognizable from Josh Fox's documentary Gasland, is Susquehanna County, bordering New York state. It is dotted with wells—the result of minimal local zoning laws. The second Pennsylvania is Dallas Township, where disputes, protests, and citizen engagement have kept most fracking development at bay. For now.

Fracking is destroying our Earth. We really need to be careful with this.
anonymous 1:14, PROVE IT!
I like a challenge Joe. I need to do some research but most are saying that it is weaking The Earth's crust poison our drinking water,". I believe it.
Interesting. You believe in something you have not been educated in. There's a LOT of information out there that's a total crock of crap. It's AMAZING what the liberals can put out there that is a complete lie and so many people will believe it.
Nevertheless, I'll wait and see what information you come up with.

Joe, whats "amazing" is that you somehow think lies and misinformation are a liberal thing. Just look at the crud spewed daily by the commenters; you'll get a good sense of how much of the bs from conservative pundits they have sucked up without an ounce of independent research or factchecking.
so you re saying there is never been and never will be any contamination of soil or water from fracking and you believe that
OH, you mean like GLOBAL WARMING or the Y2K scare? Get a grip! LIBERALS
anonymous 1:40, do your research BEFORE you come on here challenging me.
Most of the fracking "truthers" out there are simply loons. Look at states like TX, where fracking has been used for the better part of the last 60+ years. And for those that say it pollutes aquifers? Fracking for nat gas/oil happens thousands of feet UNDER water tables. Another rumor by "truthers" are the "vast amount of chemicals being used as fracking liquid". That's a joke in itself. 60 Minutes on CNBC just had a lengthy piece on last week debunking that. Keep the money here by drilling here. Instead of enriching societies that do unspeakable evil, all while not following nowhere near as strict enviromental regs.
anonymous 2:10, AMEN!
There were more chemicals found in the ground in the 1800's than there are today.
People have to be VERY careful of the wording LIBERALS are using, such as, possibilities, possible, possibly and so forth.
Are they lying, well, not really but when they say those possibilities are high, again, remember the word being used to start with.
It's a load of crap. IF we had started in the 1990's drilling and so forth we would be in perfect shape today as far as not being dependent on foreign oil.
Joe,
How about "lowering taxes will create booming job growth", "I can get gas down to $2 a gallon", "Saddam has nukes", "death panels". The list goes on.
The point is that no matter which way you lean politically. Stop letting the pundits and politicians sway you with half-baked ideas and misinformation campaigns.
Joe I bow to thee, I cannot prove of what I speak. Good Day Sir
