A Letter To The Editor 2-22-12 Accurate Optical SCAM ALERT

My job offered to pay for a pair of safety glasses. I go to Accurate Optical, get my exam and pick a really basic pair of frames. Two and a half weeks go by and I hear nothing. I give them a call only to have them take my number and NOT return my call. I call the next day only to be put on hold for 5 minutes until I just hang up. The the following day, SURPRISE, they call me but only to tell me they DONT have the frames I wanted so I had to come in and they will put my order in as a RUSH job. So I go there and they only see they have a couple extra pair of basic (free from my employer) which were not very good so I say let me see the next step up, for which I would pay maybe $10 extra for. They do NOT have the next THREE (3) levels of frames... they say the next available set is about $60 to $70 bucks. I walked out!

Here's another glasses scam out of Salisbury - at LenCrafters: The pair of glasses I bought from them (for $250) were less than a year old. The temple screw kept coming loose, so I stopped by on my visit to the mall to get a new screw.
The salesman AND manager teamed-up on me (used-car-salesman-style!)and told me that I needed a whole new set of glasses - that the "hinge was broken beyond repair". I did not think that was the case.
I stopped at a local optomitrist on my way home - they put in a new screw - and here I sit 3 months later with perfect glasses.
Beware of LensCrafters!

The amount they mark up frames and lenses is absurd! If you get your exam at another doctor and glasses made there make sure you take them back to your doctor to have them checked. If you have both the exam and glasses done there...... well good luck.

Peninsula Eye Center told me 10 business days for my new glasses and it took FIVE weeks. They also just took my number and never called back. And if you have an appointment with a Doctor there plan on wasting hours sitting in the waiting room.

I STOPPED going to Accurate Optical years ago....When Dr. Zeidman gets mad at me because my eyes were not in good shape. (HINT) reason why I'm here NOW!!! Then after giving me rude remarks about not taking care of my eyes....he then put some dye in my eyes (without Warning me that it was going to BURN)!!!! I don't appreciate the attitude I was given about my eyes....YOU don't pay my bills so don't be rude, you should give suggestions & help take care of them (reason why I'm here sitting in front of you to get my eyes taken care of!!

Thank You to Salisbury Opitcal!!! They have been Great and very kind office & they don't give you crap for the how long it has been since you were last here!!!!

I would highly reccomend Dr Debbie Steele. She is so wonderful and caring and takes her time with you. Her staff is also the greatest!!! She specializes in low vision, contacts and glasses. I have never had a problem with anything there.

There was a report in consumers reports few years back about this type of thing.

They listed most of the eyeglass makers and examiners.

I forget the winner now but one of the things they mentioned was the quality of the lens grinders.

You not always got what your prescription ordered. So even when you get NEW glasses you should still have them checked. Preferable by another company since the one that made them...well you know.

But thanks for the heads up about accurate optical. I won't be going there any time soon.

I just walked out of Accurate Optical without completing the appointment. Sat for almost 30 minutes in an empty waiting room until a lady with two children came in about fifteen minutes after my scheduled time. She barely completed their new patient paperwork and was called back for the exam, I was still sitting there waiting. I left. There is no good reason for this treatment. If they had an emergency or staff problem, someone should have come out from the back and explained to the waiting patient. I always purchase the top-of-the-line glasses, hugely expensive.

Having worked in the eye care business here's a few facts. First of all let's start by saying when patients have safety programs usually you are bound by which frames your company chooses to send the retailers, second if you took care of your eyes the dye that was put in them wouldn't have burned and third most busy optical practices have more than one doctor scheduled so if you waited and someone came in and went back it was likely that you were scheduled for different doctors.
