Does Open-Carry Gun Ban Make California Safer?

Gov. Jerry Brown's decision to ban the open carrying of handguns puts California squarely against the national tide at a time when many other states have acted to ease gun laws.

Assemblyman Anthony Portantino (D) is the author of the open carry ban, signed this week by Gov. Jerry Brown, that makes it a misdemeanor to carry an exposed and unloaded gun in public or in vehicles.

In announcing that he had signed the bill Monday, Governor Brown – a Democrat who owns three guns – said he was acting upon the advice of law-enforcement officials, including Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca.

Disarming innocent people doesn't protect innocent people.

Why does the military carry guns? Take away their guns, if guns don't help protect you, we could be fighting safer wars.

Better build more prisons Jerry. I also agree with 10:38. As things get worse in this economy is every reason to allow honest citizens to arm themselves in protection of the thugs of life.

Could someone please tell me the REAL law on handguns in Maryland? I have spoken to several police officers and they all give me varying answers. Some say you cannot openly wear one. Others say you can carry them in your vehicle only if you are going somewhere to use it but the gun has to be packed away in one area of the car and the ammo in another. But if the gun is packed away isn't that concealment? We have a constitutional right to BEAR arms and a law against carrying concealed guns. I have looked online but cannot get an exact answer. Does anyone know?? Thanks for your help.

Why don't those Nazi's take the advice of some Constitutional scholars.. when did the POLICE get to interpret the Constitution or tell us what rights we are ALLOWED to have and use? If more CITIZENS carried guns and RESISTED the efforts of WHOEVER wanted to take them, well, I think there would be less efforts to take them, and maybe more respect for the Constitution. Certainly less crime.
