California Medical Assn. Calls For Legalization Of Marijuana

The doctor group questions the medical value of pot and acknowledges some health risk from its use but urges it be regulated like alcohol. A law enforcement official harshly criticizes the new stance.

The state's largest doctor group is calling for legalization of marijuana, even as it pronounces cannabis to be of questionable medical value.

Trustees of the California Medical Assn., which represents more than 35,000 physicians statewide, adopted the position at their annual meeting in Anaheim late Friday. It is the first major medical association in the nation to urge legalization of the drug, according to a group spokeswoman, who said the larger membership was notified Saturday.

Let's all call it what it is... a PLANT. Not a drug.

If California did this they could pull themselves out of the financial problems they are in right now. Boy they could really make some new tax revenue!!

With them all zombie'd out, there would be no one left working to PAY all the rest of the taxes!

They've already been smoking it, California's #1 crop and big revenue generator.

They've been smoking it and working fine and paying taxes. The co-ops serving cancer and other patients may have a small amount of abuse, however no more probably than your average DR office getting abused for Oxy.

The meds I take for anxiety and depression, probably do more damage to my body and liver than pot could ever.

You have the right to smoke cigarettes and let rotten teeth poison your system, why do you want to take somebody elses right from them?

Theres goes the "only stupid people" argument (used mostly by OTHER stupid people). 35,000 DOCTORS?! How many educated people have to come out for legalization in order to overcome the uninformed, neaderthal thinking, brainwashed, goose-stepping "I know whats best for everyone" people? The same people who have a stocked bar in their house and drink everyday, smoke cigarettes (because they are HOOKED ON DRUGS), and lecture others on how they should live their lives.....The same cop who arrests you for smoking pot is going home and hittin' a doob, the same lawyer who defends your case is doing the same, as is the judge who sentences you. Facts backed up by hundreds of court cases across the nation. Wake up. think for yourselves...you might even become a Senator or President. More facts.
