A Letter To The Editor 9-3-11

The citywide spraying of pesticides

I do not understand what the point is, of poisoning our citizens and polluting our community with this antiquated ritual of citywide spraying of pesticides.

I was in the Deer Harbour community and they were spraying at 6PM in the evening while children were playing, people walking their dogs and other were maintaining their lawns.

Last nite on the east side our street had the pleasure of a double dose as he came by twice.  Why do we have to pay an additional fee to restore the bay, and then also pay taxes to have someone drive around and pollute our community which ultimately ends up in the bay?  Doesn't seem logical.  I have lived in other cities and no where else does this.  Want to lower our cancer rate?  Get rid of the truck.  Can anyone give me a valid reason why we still do this other than "because we always have".

Really? They spray because we want them to and pay them to do it. How else are we supposed to control the mosquitos and enjoy an evening in our backyards? BTW, Deer Harbor isn't in the city, it is in the county. People need to start sorting city from county, they are not one in the same. There ae many cities that spray for mosquitos. The ones you are talking about are probably wet pant cities from across the bay.

This is the kind of stuff that pisses me off royally.

I wish they would spray. Deer harbour is not the city & residents pay to be sprayed. I suppose you'd rather someone died from some mosquito or tick born illness...as a neighbor's son nearly did just a few short weeks ago. SPRAY MORE, not less!

Spray at night! more afraid of killing a bird than a person? then stop

The people tending to the yards were not from the "Deer Harbour" community. The dog walker letting the dog mess on someone else yard, should move. If you don't spray you woun't be able to live there.

Good, the plan is working. Too many people living there.

Individual responsibility! There are a number of ways to keep bugs and mosquitos away. Spraying cancerous pesticides through an entire community is a poor, ill-conceived method.
Gang, I'd rather be bitten by bugs and mosquitos than suffer the tireless pains this crap is shooting out.
I will be around door-to-door soon hawking bug zappers and citronella candels.

Deer Harbour has poor drainage which leads to an infestation of Mosquitos. Not sure what magic alternatives you seem to have up your sleeve.

The USEPA reviews and approves insecticides (and other pesticides) and their labeling to ensure those used to protect public health are applied by methods that minimize the risk of human exposure and adverse health and environmental effects. Generally, there is no need to relocate during mosquito control fogging. The insecticides have been evaluated for this use and have been found to pose minimal risk to human health and the environment when used according to label directions. For example, USEPA has estimated the exposure and risks to both adults and children posed by ULV aerial and ground applications of the insecticides malathion and naled. For all the scenarios considered, exposures ranged from 100 to 10,000 times below the amount of pesticide that might pose a health concern. These estimates assumed several spraying events over a period of weeks and also assumed that a toddler would ingest some soil and grass in addition to dermal exposure. Other mosquito control insecticides pose similarly low risks.

The best time to spray is at dusk. That is when mosquitos actively feed.

If you always do , what you've always done , you're always gonna get what you've always got.

That's why they do it!

Sounds like another 'come here' trying to change things to suit them. Candles smell nice but they don't work.

12:16, hence, dead mosquitos. If anyone can show us where there is a corrlation between local spraying and illness, please share.

A question to the person writing the letter, Can you give us a valid reason why you don't move back to the city you came from? It is vary evident you are a COME HERE first because Deer Harbor is not in the city. Second if you do live here you must have just moved here or you stay cooped up in your house during the early evening hours. This summer being dry until the last rainfall has kept the mosquitoes down but give them water like we just received and they will soon be heavy. The chemicals they use for control are right next door to water and the risk are very minimal. you want to know why we all want them sprayed take a ride out to Furnace Town at Dusk and get out of your car and try sitting for 30 minutes in a lawn chair. You will soon figure out why the people who enjoy being out doors want the spraying done.

Will someone please tell the Writer of the letter they were not spraying for mosquitoes. They are spraying for Come Here's! If you don't know what that is then you are in extreme danger. Please proceed to route 50 and head West until you get back to your home land where you belong.

10:41 and they used to say that about DDT, which is now banned.

If it were not for the "come here's" you all would still be living out of huts and rubbing sticks together to make fire. This is evidenced everytime you open your mouths to speak and ignorance comes out. Is there any "local" that has more than an
8th grade education? I am embarrassed enough to admit I live here, lord pity those who find pride in growing up in such a sewer.

9:25am on 9/04/2011 We were doing just fine until a-holes like you moved here and decided you like it here. Problem is that then you decided to move here and now you want to try and change our home to what you moved away from. It is evident that you are one of the people who need to stop one of us locals and get directions to Route 50 so you can find your way back home to the city life you love. Please don't bring your city life to our peaceful country living because you city people have already ruined the shore. If you live here and don't like it here or how we do things what the hell is stopping you from moving where you fit in.

Ha ha ha, peaceful country living. Whores, gangs, drugs, shootings, robberies, high welfare rate, low ownership rate, minimum wage community, and for fun we will throw in a joke of a city council. Like I said, huts and sticks.

And where do these idiots come from? Don't flatter yourself. We did just fine before you came here. As evidenced above, we have done worse since you came here.

Pack your bags and move out. We don't need or want your kind.

Or couldn't you make it wherever you're from? So you had to come where people, as you believe are less educated?

That may be it. Funny how we don't want you either. You just can't make it anywhere.

Excuse me now, I have to go slap some more mud on my hut. Be careful crossing that bridge. Don't want the wind to blow you off and pollute the bay more. Bye bye now.
