Council Poised To Lay Off City Manager, Others?

OCEAN CITY -- City Manager Dennis Dare’s future is in doubt, as a result of an unprecedented closed session held yesterday afternoon at City Hall.

Although nothing is official and neither Mayor Rick Meehan nor any of the City Council members would comment after the one-hour meeting concluded yesterday, all indications from on-site observations and a half dozen knowledgeable sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity, are Dare’s 21-year stint as the resort’s city manager, the top ranking administrator in the city, is coming to an end.

I have habitually warned people - particularly local people - to stay away from Ocean City. The corruption is so rhampant that I don't know where to begin. I worked down at Ocean City for over a decade - and they have a chief building inspector who was making in excess of 100k years ago. When there was an effort to privatize the whole department and save a bundle - Dennis Dare fought against it.

I'm telling everyone - and I repeat - everyone - stay out of Ocean City. They'll find ways to fine you even if you think you are perfectly legal.

Every time I drive down Coastal highway and look up at all the condos, I think "where is all that property tax money going?". Well, the Town once again thinks they will be short of cash. Maybe somebody found "the stash".

Ocean City also has the highest water rates in the whole State of Maryland.

There was an elderly woman on 120th street who had an outdoor faucett freeze and it ran for two weeks undiscovered. When she got her $1500 water bill she called to ask for a waiver - and got NO DEAL. Ron Ellis used to waive these fees for the elderly - but retired and some uncompromising nit wit took over and has been taking the residences to the cleaners.

Wow, other than the other city employees that have gotten a free ride under Dennis, who hired most of them, sure seems no-one else is upset, ie: look at the number of posts. To those sheading the tears, just do your job, and everything will work out. Those that haven't and won't, your next!
