United Healthcare Decides Only One Procedure Was Needed

The good news is that after having two procedures on her spine last fall, Jackie is able to walk again. The bad news is that even though the two procedures were identical, United is only paying for the first one and not the second, and won't actually explain why. She has appealed the decision, but things don't look promising.

This is NOT an endorsement of ObamaCare.  It is our view that incidents such as this merely enhance the argument for opening up the health insurance business to MORE competition.  More competition and allowing the individual to have more say in their healthcare coverage will reform an industry dominated by giants whose customers are not policyholders, but the corporations who pay for them. – Ed.

I'm all for opening up competition within the insurance industry, and the fact that obamacare does not do that, is just another reason why I'm against obamacare.

My Pops had United, and our story is the complete opposite. During the last decade of his life(the vast majority with UH), literally millions of dollars went into his care. Never were we pressured to not have a procedure done, in fact the insurance was never involved in the decision making process. Now, what coverage he had, is considered by some politicians as a "cadillac plan", although, for him and his medical history, it was the only way he could get insurance. To be honest, without such outstanding coverage, I don't believe he would've had his last 10 years. Nowadays we don't hear any "good" stories about insurance. But my family has a great one.

I'm glad that you have a positive story to relate. There is a piece above about Comcast and I included an editorial note that I have had a great experience over the years with Comcast (and Delmarva Power as well).

It is unfortunate, and true, that we usually only hear the negative stories about companies like health insurers. While I believe it important to relay some of those negative stories, I am gratified to have the opportunity to relay positive stories such as yours.
