Come on- the best grocery store in town? Half of the time when I go in to buy a sale item advertised in their flyer, they don't have any of it on the shelf or maybe just one flavor.

I stopped shopping there a long time ago after numerous attempts of them trying to rip me off. No tears will be shed by me on this one.

I never considered it anything more than the most expensive grocery store in town. Which would explain its lack luster performance and closing.

Anonymous said...

If it was the best in town, everybody would be going there, and it wouldn't be for sale.

I've gone there many times and used to like it, but it is too expensive, and often they're out of the things I go there for.

Sorry to see them go, but no big loss to me.

Giant seems to be doing better every day. Not the best, but better than before.

Anonymous said...

not at all. Giant has much better service and dollar for dollar, there's no real difference in cost.

I shop the Superfresh ads and that's about it.
Giant is expensive but sells a lot of hard to find specialty items and you have the abilty to check yourself out as opposed to waiting forever at S.F because they only have a couple of registers open. I don't see it as a huge loss

best grocery store in town?!?! not hardly, the food on the shelves is always outdated and the prices are outrageous! i havent shopped there in a couple of years because it was so nasty and when i stopped in about a month ago because it was on my way and i just needed one thing, the shelves were not stocked well and it was worse than ever, it even smells bad. good riddance.

Superfresh and Giant are expensive. I guarantee if you purchased items at superfresh, and then went to walmart and bought the same exact things, you will pay less money at walmart everytime. I am also tired of these places advertising things only to go in their and find they don't have them. They do have a good produce section though, and their meat is pretty good, although the last time I tried to buy some ribeyes there, I had to take out a second mortgage to buy them. EXPENSIVE. btw, aren't they union?

Anonymous said...

I quit going there years ago. Worst and slowest service.

Anonymous said...

10:26am, don't know about S.F but Giant is Union. Walmart is cheaper but you can get some really good deals w/ the S.F weekly ads and they do double coupons, if it's not on the shelf go get a rain check, they're good for a month.

Anonymous said...

Gotta stick with Walmart in this economy.

Anonymous said...

all they had was good beer at decent prices

Obama's recovery plan in action. Knock out the buisness section so everybody needs a hand out.
Vote this clown out in 2012!!!!!

Food Lion is great and no Christmas Lines like you have at WALMART.

I feel bad for the folks who will be out of work at these locations. I am sure they have bills like the rest of us...

Anonymous said...

Rainchecks are a pain in the butt. If they are out, either 2 things. They didn't order enough (poor management) or they don't want you to have the deal to begin with. They know that most people will not get a raincheck, and even if they do (which i have done) it may be a while before they get the item in, and most people will have forgotten. Either way, they got you in the store. Coupons? You mean buy 30 and save 10 cents?

Keep buying at Walmart, & you won't have any other stores to worry about anymore in the future. They are well-known for raising their prices when the other stores' items go off sale at the end of the week, and in other cities have run all their competition out of business. Then they raise their prices, 'cause where else are you going to shop now? In addition, you have to watch what prices come up at the register vs. what is on the shelf; rarely ever the same. As to Superfresh, their cashiers were nasty towards customers when they were still in Fruitland, & not much has changed. If you don't get in there the first day of the sale, first thing in the morning, you won't be getting any sale items, either.

the city has get to be thrilled.
next one in gets to pay 250k water impact fees

I wonder if SU will try to buy the property.
Any bets?

Anonymous said...

That was a joke right?

Anonymous said...

2:19 I'm sure SU will. Which means another taxable property taken away. Lets hope the new city council members will fight to keep it away from SU.

good riddance, Super Fresh is the most expensive grocery store that I have ever been in.

I recently went to Super Fresh to purchase some items for a hot dog lunch so my partner and I could microwave hot dogs for lunch for the week.

I bought cheap hot dogs, hot dog rolls, 4 cans of baked beans and 2 bags of doritos (on sale) and the total was over $26.00 before the cashier swiped her discount card and even then it was still a tad over 20 bucks.

Those very same items if purchased at Wal*Mart would have cost half thator less.

The independence card has kept Super Fresh afloat (those that have no concept of a dollar) for quite some time now.

After many years working at s f I can tell you that the sadest thing about it closing is that the employees have no say in How or what is done. Rudeness comes from the top, and I can tell you we have had the worst execs running our company for the last 15 years. Hope you all have to work in retail at some point so you get an understanding of what a corporate world to work in is like.

Anonymous said...

The only items that I can afford at SuperFresh are the items on the front page of theiradvertising folder. But the catch is that when I go in to purchase them they are not in stock. My favorite coffee is Tasters Choice. It costs $6.97 at WalMart and $10.97 at SuperFresh. But most of the cashiers are rather friendly but there is one who I would not use even if all the others had six or more people to check out. I would never go through her line again.

We talked to the pharmacy and they said that other super fresh's are closing but not ours.

For a poor economy SU seems to have allot of doe to toss around. Look at the new building going up at College and Route 13; the Commons on Camden ave cost 20 million I can only imagine what this new building may have cost. But, kids fees and tuition keep going up and a $250,000 a year salary for the President for SU to include free meals, car, home and expenses paid for. Seems like the IRS should be checking them out huh before another major purchase like the old Super Fresh store?

Anonymous said...

I want to talk anout the nasty comments about Super Fresh. Prices, not controlled at store level, they have no say. Out of sale items ordered weeks before sale. Often supplier can not provide items, cut at the warehouse. Store looses money on a raincheck, so they would rather have product. Check prices close at Wal-mart, prices have gone way up also. 50-60 people with no job.

Ken Smith said...

In my opinion their pharmacy is outstanding and I will miss the personal quality service.

I will also miss grocery shopping there. They have many outstanding employees and also unfortunately many that are not.

Sad day for Salisbury.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone thought of the impact of 50-60 people without a job. They will not be puttings thousand of dollars a year back in Salisbury. It will have an impact on Coke, Pepsi, Keebler, Nabisco, Frito-Lay, Herrs, Utz, Lewes Dairy, bread companies on and on. Those glad they are closing, so you are daming many familes who have bills to pay and mouths to feed, and no medical benefits. May you experience the same problem.

Anonymous said...

i thought walmart only served trailor parks

Anonymous said...

anyone even stupid enough to shop walmart, isnt smart enough to compare prices

Anonymous said...

5:55, those other companies that you speak of will do no less business. It will just be done with one less store. If all the gas stations closed in salisbury except for one, does that mean that the salisbury area would use less gas? No, they would all just have to buy it from gas station.

I have lived on the Eastern Shores all my life. I though we were god fearing, people loving here. Until I read comments here. These four or five dozen people go to work to support their families. They will not have a job or medical for their family. I work retail, and finding customers have gone from rude to mean. I bet you could be one. Every business has some bad employees, do others think you are the one. Hope your boss does not tell you Monday, you are no longer needed. What goes around comes around. God bless these people, time are hard right now to find another job.

I absolutely agree with you regarding Salisbury University buying-up the facility.

A Daily Times reporter - Joe Cacchiolla - once ridiculed me day while he investigated my allegation about Salisbury University buying-up the old Dresser property. I informed him then - as I do SBYnews readers now - that SU will end-up owning that shopping center. They don't care what the appraised price is - they'll do whatever it takes and even tag Maryland residents with even higher taxes. You just wait and see!

A good analogy - like trying to lure waterfoul to a pond - only to find the pond being pumped and drained simultanious.

Businesses and local residents will continue to flee as the watering hole continues to dry-up. It has already happened - look at the local factory closings list.

Customers need to read the labels carefully at Wallmart, and other stores, to see what has been injected into the meats. You will find that saline solutions, etc are included, to enhance the color of the beef, pork, and other meats. They are not cut and packaged in the store, but done at central locations far from here. The chemicals help to increase the shelf life of the meats. Even some of Perdue poultry, (read the label) is injected with a solution containing sodium, etc. Wallmart often sells to a lower socioeconomic population, who may already suffer from hypertension, and other health issues. Adding unwanted sodium to their diet is not helpful. Wallmart also sells chicken that contains no additives, antibiotics, etc. This is a more healthful choice. Again, read the label, it is important!

5:55, it will have no effect on Coke, Keebler etc. The people that buy the products will simply buy them elsewhere, thus those companies will not miss out on any business

Folks-A&P have declared bankruptcy. They own Superfresh. Restructuring, etc call it what you want. Does anyone remeber the huge store on the north end of town? That's been closed for years. I have shopped here for years since they opened. Always found them pretty fair price wise. Selection could be better. Help for the most part has been fine though when busy they tend to fall apart and become dissorganized. As a "come here" I have noticed one main thing-no matter your preference you tend to stick with what you now and don't accept change at any or all costs. I find that to be the worse part. And 50 to 60 people out of work.

It is amazing to me how many stores close in Salisbury, leaving a big empty store. Remember the Giant on the North side, building is still empty. But Salisbury will not allow a Cracker Barrel to come to town. This would bring so much business to Salisbury, hire many people and be an asset to the community as well. It is about time that "Our City Leaders" wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's spelled trailer there genius. if you're gonna insult a group of people at least cover your dumb butt and be better than who you are demeaning.

Sorry about the people losing their jobs. I've only been in there a handful of times. I thought the prices were a little high. I think most prices are high no matter where you shop.

Cory said...

Prices too high and items are scattered all over the store .... I go to Giant for better prices and items are easier to find and the people that work there are alot friendlier

Cory said...

i have an idea convert the old north Giant into a Cracker Barrel

Anonymous said...

With the exception of possibly Sams Club Super Freash has the best meat selection in town... Walmarts "prepackaged" meats look like deli slices... I agree that some prices maybe higher at S/F but this store is clean compaired with Food Lion at Pecan Square

Anonymous said...

The old north Giant..... that used to be a superfresh is having a craft store go in there.

A simple fact of human nature is that we all have different taste and different prefernces. Some of us prefer to pay a little more for a better selection and higher quality product. In regards to the comments on the meats at Walmart, they are true - they do have suppliers add solutions to thier products to make sure the product they sell weighs a certain amount. This means there are instances where we are paying good money for salt water rather than meat. Also, please pay attention to prices - you will notice that Walmart has steadily raised prices over the years. Not that every store has not - they just have a way of making people think they are always the best price and this is simply not true. I have come to the consulsion that dealing with the other shoppers at Walmart, especially on a Friday or Saturday night, so make it not worth my time or effort to go there. No wonder people in customer service, such as cashiers, have attitudes - look what they have to deal with - and this goes for every store!

If anyone thinks that the Vendors will not suffer from this just call Eastern Shore Distributors, or Carey Distributors, or Coke & Pepsi. Some of the sale reps have already expressed concern over what this will mean to their jobs. I believe they will disagree with you. As far as SU taking over the property, that is foolish. I know for a fact that the Landlord has other Grocery Chains lined up to come in if A&P does not find a buyer.

I personally am going to be very sad that superfresh is being sold....The employees are like one big family we have worked together for years. I feel to the remarks that people think the store is dirty or we have bad customer service hey everyone is intitled to a opinion... Maybe there are a couple bad apples must alot of us love our customers and our jobs. But for the most part you learn as much as we try to make people happy, you cant make them happy if they dont want to be happy..........
For the loyal customers belive me when i tell you ,thanks from the bottom of our hearts for your support and love you show us.
REMEMBER we are not closed so please continue to support us :)

No you don't. Always love the ones who say,'I know for a fact'. Red flag meaning bs.
