ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland's governor has scheduled an announcement next week on the Chesapeake Bay's crab fishery.
Details on Tuesday's announcement by Gov. Martin O'Malley were not released, but those who follow the fishery are awaiting the results of the annual winter dredge survey.
The survey conducted by Maryland and Virginia is the most comprehensive look at the bay's crab population. Findings are used to guide management of crabs in the bay.

When I go crabbing the crab has to be over 5 inches, why are the crabs being sold in this area 30 dollars for 1/2 bushel and are around 3 1/2 inches to 4 1/2 inches and are the females?
Mature female crabs (sooks) in Maryland do not have any legal size requirement.
Hope those doing this suvey links / factors the rock fish population and their size in their results. Baby crabs and when they shed are food for the rock. The last survey they refused to admit it and factor that in their results. Ask the experts. They are Watermen not the desk jocks.
