Kindle users, fire up your brains for even more delicious books. Amazon announced earlier today that the OverDrive ebook library lending system is coming to the Kindle platform. The technology is already available on competing book replacement devices, the Nook and Kobo. Kindle Library Lending will give Kindle users access through the 11,000 public and school/college libraries that are already part of OverDrive.

Kindle is an awesome device and very affordable.
I read the Amazon news release but don't completely understand it. Will the books be free and only avalable on Kindle for a limited amount of time?
This is the kind of affordable technology that should be considered for student textbooks. With a selling price of $139 in single quantity, it's cheaper than some student's shoes cost.
1003-From what I read about it, the books will be free on the kindle or through the kindle app available on other devices. You'll be able to access free content from libraries and universities. I haven't yet bought an e-reader, but this may get me to do it.
The problem I've found so far is that the book selection is very limited and the wait times are horrible. The library loans ebooks for 1-2 weeks and a lot of popular books have 30-50 ahead of you on a wait list. At 2 weeks per book, you'll wait 1-2 years.
