ANNAPOLIS, MD (April 18, 2011) –TODAY, Governor Martin O’Malley will make an important announcement regarding the blue crab fishery and the health and future of the Chesapeake Bay.
In 2008, Maryland and Virginia took strong, coordinated action to reduce harvest pressure on female crabs by regulating harvesting in the Bay. At that time, scientists from both jurisdictions deemed conservation measures necessary as blue crab suffered near historic lows in spawning stock.
