Law enforcement are in a high speed chase right now with a motorcycle that started at Rt. 13 Bypass heading west. They are now on Rt. 50 at speeds in excess of 120 mph. and the motorcycle is pulling away from law enforcement. WCSD is involved in the chase.

UPDATE: Wicomico County Sheriff's Deputies have lost the motorcyclist.
State Police are on ther lookout in Mardela.
It has now been reported at 6:59 they have called off the chase, "he is gone."
UPDATE #2: A Maryland State Trooper was sitting in Mardela waiting for the motorcyclist to come by. The motorcyclist flew past the State Trooper in excess of 130 mph and the Trooper never even pulled onto Rt. 50. It was a green motorcycle with a black male driving it.

These superbikes can outrun ANY police cruiser with ease.

speeds of 130mph thats not too bright... but cops are too hyped up for a chase and dont think that at that speed if they cause the guy to run at those speeds he will surely kill someone.... ALL high speed chases should be banned just for this reason. Plus its not like the police or the state is going to pay any damages caused by a cop chasing a guy and causing a bad crash
A lot of states have banned high speed chases. Especially involving motorcycles, because there is really no chance of them catching them. In some cases if the motorcyclists were to crash and kill themselves the family could end up suing law enforcement. As crazy as it sounds they can and most likely win the suit.
Cory, you are absolutely right. A high speed chase makes it more dangerous for everyone: the chased, the chaser and innocent public on the roadways. This should be banned! This is not a good job. It is just plain stupid!
I believe that the chase should be based on the crime committed. Chase an amber alert to the gates of hell, pull off of a speeding deal. Watch commanders should make the call, not a jazzed up officer high on adrenaline.
Maybe it should be the person who choose to run who should pay for the damages. Have you ever thought about holding them acountable. Nevr mind, tha would make sense.

10:02 thats fine but if there is no chase then there would be no chance of damage due to the police pushing the envelop to that.... high speed pursuits should be banned.... the cops simply need a tag# from the vehicle and investigate from there. the guy will have to stop sometime
for those of you un educated individuals commenting, the duty officer is the one who authorizes all chases for 90% or more of all departments and there are chase criterias involved, which is developed based on the crime committed, at this point no one knows why the chase was initiated so why criticize if you don't know, joe runs a decent blog however its all the un educated commenters that create the drama wheel each and every day

last year an idiot county police officer from PG county gave chase to a speeding motocylist on the beltway, needless to say after the officer launched his vehicle over the center guardrail and impacted an oncoming vehicle killing hmself and all the occupants. They never caught the motocyclist. How many people in Maryland have been killed by speeding police officers? responding to minor infractions? Ans, to many!
the word to use here would be discernment, which unfortunately most seem to be lacking in that department!

The decisions to pursue or not to pursue must be based on the merits of the individual situation. And they are. The duty officer monitors every call and is responsible for making the decisions. If an agency adopts a "no pursuit policy" it effectively neuters the patrol officers on traffic stops for those who fail to comply. No. A no pursuit policy is a mistake. Prudence and common sense, however, are necessities.

I watched a porsche on a california highway walk away from a police helo. Seem's like a waste of resources for a speeder!
I brought up the subject because the police should NOT ever put the public in danger by chasing anyone to speeds of 130mph its stupid and and simply not worth killing some other innocent motorist or pedestrian walking across a street because some cop thinks writing tickets is the way to go... all a cop needs is a radio and people ahead of the criminal running to get the guy to stop or simply get the tag# of the vehicle and get the guy later that day.... im sorry but if i got into an auto accident because a dumb cop like this id punch the guy in the mouth and demand my car and all medical bills be paid by the officer and the state
Cory, If someone kindapped my daughter, and the police thought they had the vehicle, I would kill somebody if they told the officer not to try to chase that vehicle down. It could mean the matter of life and death. If the circumstances are okay, I don't have a problem with ANY police chase. Criminals have enought rights already, lets not give them a right not to be chased.

Criminals use Diversionary tatics all the time and this information was for others to review. You must Watch too much TV if you assume that is where I aquired my information from SIR!
Cory: First of all to say stopm chasing all together is an idiotic remark! Chasing motorcycles most of the time is rediculous. It will depend on the a lot of factors, i.e. time of day, traffic, weather conditions etc. Most of the time a motorcycle chase is called off. Yes the cops get hyped but for the most part they call it off themselves before the duty officer does. But to have a no chase policy just tells the criminals "run run run away from the law they can't chase you". And getting a tag number is a start but good luck proving who was driving if you didnt get a positive ID on the driver. You assume that the registered owner is always the driver. well most of the time when someone runs they are not the registered owner. Chases are determined on the crime committed. If the cop IDs the driver then 99.9% of the time the chase is called off and the police get a warrant. If it is a crime of violence then the chase is on! Common sense plays a big role in all this. Dont be so closed minded when you have no clue about what you are talking about and that goes for everyone not just Cory!
I wish MSP would hang out on the by-pass between the Johnson Road overpass & Snow Hill Road exit. The motorcycles, especially those crotch rockets, gun it on that straight away. Enough to rattle my windows. The noise level just keeps getting worse.

Crown Vics governed at 126 mph due to tire speed rating some of the "interceptor" cars had no high speed governing and the V-rated tires, up to 149 mph but, these were dropped due to cost cutting measures thus the cars had to be slowed down. In other words to chase a 1200 cc motorcycle capable of 130-140 milrs an hour is simply a waste of fuel, resources and a liability risk as well.augher
Yeah but if EVERYBODY knew that the police couldn't chase them NO BODY would stop for speeding. I say chase'em and if they kill themselves so be it.
