Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is in the midst of its worst U.S. sales slump ever.
When it reports earnings on Tuesday, the retailer is widely expected to post its second straight year of declining domestic same-store sales.
Wal-Mart's struggles are the result of a misstep: To jump-start lethargic growth and counter the rise of competitors such as cheap-chic rival Target Corp., executives veered away from the winning formula of late founder Sam Walton to provide "every day low prices" to the American working class. Wal-Mart, the world's biggest retailer by sales, instead raised prices on some items while promoting deals on others.

Since December, 2010, I've been buying one particular food item at Walmart.
The shelf tag (initially the red 'Rollback' tag) said the item was $3.00
But when I checked out, it rang up at $3.48.
I bought it 4 or 5 times since then-- always the same thing... the shelf tag said $3.00, but it rang up at $3.48.
I told them each time what the tag said, and they changed it at the register, but never changed the tag.
This happened at BOTH Walmart stores here.
I have to conclude that THIS WAS INTENTIONAL. I have heard other stories like this.
And I've seen that Giant and others are now pricing lower than Walmart for many items.
I think Walmart is so big, they think they can get away with things like this.
Maybe for a short time, but people are beginning to see the light.
They come into a town, drive the competition out of business, then do what they want.
And people wonder why there's opposition when they want to build a new store.
I'm going elsewhere when I can.
YES WAL-MART is hurting but don't forget about the employee's that work there !! I work at wal-mart my hours and every other wal-mart employee have had there working hours cut in half, try living on 20 hrs a week, they told us they had to cut everybodies hours so they wouldn't have to lay anyone off. Well a would get more on unemployment then what I'm getting now !!!!
Well, Zach, we feel for you, but there is something you can do to change it.
Be sure that when you're on the job, you're one of the most customer service-oriented people around, and encourage your coworkers to do the same.
Make sure you NEVER treat a customer like they're a pain in the sas -- go out of your way to be helpful and courteous.
If all of you were doing that, your lot might improve.
Best wishes to you.
Wal-Mart employees have no particular skills or bargaining power with Corporate its been kept this way for years to keep them complacent obedient sheep
there is always another slob looking for an unskilled job
and the throngs that shop there at those prices should keep their pie holes shut about poor service
you get what you pay for
conservatives go on about how small businesses will create jobs
well we use to have small businesses owned and run by local folks that provided excellent service
you wanted it cheap
you got it
Wal-Marts are basically above ground landfills
nothing but cheap crap
