I have read many of the comments on the articles we have provided referencing the Thomas Leggs/Sarah Foxwell hearings and I'd like to take this opportunity to explain just why you will not see anything produced by the local MSM on this matter.
EVERYONE involved in this case is under a gag order NOT to speak to anyone about the case. That being said, IF they made any statement it would mean that someone at the States Attorneys Office, WBI, MSP or WCSO violated that gag order. Unless those reporters were there, anything they provide is here say.
Now maybe you'll start getting some coverage from the MSM from here on out. Heck, it's the ONLY way you're going to get outside coverage other than Salisbury News. Wouldn't that be most interesting! They would actually have to go there and be a part of the case, (which they've never done) and stop relying on family members to fill them in.
That's what happened in Annapolis. WBOC rang their phones off the hook because they refused to invest the time to go there and instead relied on a family member to feed them the information. And why didn't WBOC get the information the evening of in Annapolis. Because the family agreed that they did nothing to EARN it. Therefore they refused to answer their phone.
Now let's see. Salisbury News is run by ONE person. If I can find the time to travel 2 hours away to cover such a case while the local MSM has hundreds of people working for them, what's wrong with this picture. Do THEY really care about the most important story to ever hit the Eastern Shore, NO! That is, unless it's handed to them on a silver platter.
So to those of you who challenge me as to WHY I go after the local MSM on occasion, now you know why. They don't give a crap about WORK. Especially when local organizations FEED them information so they don't have to do anything. If one guy can beat the crap out of three MSM companies and deliver stories 2 or 3 days before they even get around to it, well, Salisbury News is "Delmarva's News Leader" where we deliver "More News In Less Time". They can SUGGEST they're number one but they're just slogans and FAR from the actual truth. Salisbury News will force the local MSM to get off their tails and start doing their own work. To fall asleep on the biggest story to ever hit the Eastern Shore simply proves they continue to fail while a local Blog continues to cross the finish line on 95% of the daily stories well ahead of the MSM.
We have become not only the come to place for local news and information. We are also the come to place for the local MSM to get their stories for the day too. It's a proven fact. They have no shame nor pride any more. That is, unless they're covering a story about one of their advertisers.

Unless someone provides them with a press release, or it happens in Milton, DE WBOC won't cover it. They simply do no investigation of their own. When do you suppose the last time Steve Hammond stepped foot out of the building to research something?

It's just as usual for them - if it doesn't happen in Delaware, they are not interested. What a waste. By the way, thank you for making that two hour trip, sitting on the hard bench all day, then reporting to us. I, for one, appreciate all you do.

You never spoke badly about WMDt until Stacy left. She wasn't all that, Joe. She was actually part of the problem.
anonymous 9:01, that's absolutely UNTRUE. Stacy never stopped me from exposing their flaws and I had it out numerous times with WMDT on many issues over the years. We agree to disagree on many issues and I don't care who you are, this is a big story and the local MSM is pretty much broke these days and can't afford to send people to cover many stories.
In fact, I know of at least 4 stories in the past two weeks where one news station didn't have a spare camera person to cover top story events. WMDT is one of them. It's not a bash, it's reality.
Now that we've cleared that up, are you suggesting that ANY of the local MSM cover more stories and or break more local stories than I do?
Could it be possible the MSM doesn't want to report anything that might blow the case? It has happened in the past. It was moved to Cecil County because of all the publicity here in Salisbury. Imagine how you would feel if something you said was used against the state and the slimeball didn't get the death penalty. Another possibility could be the states attorney didn't invite the MSM to attend. Gag orders are in place for a reason.
anonymous 11:58, NO, anything that was said in those hearings is a matter of public record. The Press has every right to expose whatever they so choose from what was stated. I took more than 10 pages of notes but chose to only provide very basic information. Others may choose to do differently. However, they have to show up and spend the money to have someone there for days at a time.
Anon 8:25, Steve Hammond is a news anchor and not an on the street reporter, and, If I may add, worked damn hard for the position. Steve is a stand-up kinda of person and does more for this community than some of you will ever know.

The point being when have you seen any of the anchors on scene of a big story? Remember back in the day, they used both live trucks nearly every night. Now they have a sat truck, 3? live trucks, a live helicopter. When do you see any of this being used? They now like to stand in one of the studios and act like this is "covering it live" or stand right out in the back yard like they are fooling someone.
When has anyone seen a WBOC reporter in public? You occasionally see Ko Im out there, see seems to work fairly hard chasing the story. Come on until this month, they had 4 "bureaus" and only 3 reporters LOL. But don't you worry Dover, Milton and Easton you know places their over the air signal doesn't even reach are covered. Who'd want to know about the heart of the peninsula like Salisbury, Delmar, Seaford, Millsboro, Berlin, Ocean City, Snow Hill, Crisfield, etc. At least send out a young kid cameraperson to get some footage and ask some questions instead of using stock images. Doesn't SU have a communications program? Why not bring in some interns from SU, Wor-Wic, UMES, Del-tech? Wouldn't cost them a thing and kids would get work experience.
WBOC is NOT NEWS, it's all Preston Ford ads and press releases read verbatim. They've fired everyone decent, or annoyed them enough to move all, how many good reporters/anchors have left in the past 10 years, I've lost count. The only reason anyone tunes in at all any more is to see what the weather ladies are wearing.
All they are worried about is the dollar, they could give a "dang" (sorry Joe won't let us cuss) about putting on a quality newscast.
Their website is pathetic, it's updated at most once a day with a few stories, even Daily Times does better at updating though the day, sure it's one or 2 lines of text, spelled wrong and grammatically incorrect but it's updated.
There is only one source for news on Delmarva, and that's Salisbury News. It's not all the news, and it may be filtered by Sherriff Joe - but he's a one man band and does a great job and does it all voluteer doesn't even make a dime off it. (far as I know, he donates all the ad money away)
