Possible Snowstorm Early Next Week

We will be watching for the possibility of significant snowfall beginning Monday night into Tuesday.

A low pressure system may strengthen off the coast over the warmer Gulf Stream waters (our typical scenario for trouble in these parts), bringing with it lots of moisture and windy conditions.

From the NOAA forecasters:

LONG TERM   (SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY)...
AN UPPER LOW RETREATS FROM THE NORTHEAST TOWARD ATLANTIC CANADA
SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY...PLACING THE MID ATLANTIC IN A COLD
ADVECTION PATTERN. LOWS SUNDAY MORNING SHOULD DROP INTO THE UPPER
TEENS TO LOW 20S INLAND...WITH MID TO UPPER 20S ALONG THE IMMEDIATE
COASTLINES. MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES SUNDAY AFTERNOON ARE ONLY EXPECTED
TO RISE INTO THE MID 30S NORTH...TO AROUND 40 SOUTH.

DURING THIS TIME PERIOD HIGH LATITUDE RIDGING DEVELOPS OVER ALASKA
WHILE THE GREENLAND BLOCK REMAINS IN PLACE. THIS WILL FORCE THE
POLAR JET SOUTHWARD ACROSS THE SOUTHERN TIER OF THE UNITED STATES
FORMING A BROAD LONGWAVE TROUGH OVER THE NATION.

AN UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH...AND ASSOCIATED SURFACE LOW DRIFT ACROSS
THE GULF COAST SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY. MEANWHILE...THE GREENLAND
BLOCK IS EXPECTED TO WEAKEN AND A NORTHERN STREAM TROUGH IS EXPECTED
TO DIG INTO THE MID MISSISSIPPI VALLEY BY SUNDAY NIGHT. THIS WILL
ALLOW THE SYSTEM OVER THE GULF TO BEGIN TO TURN NORTHWARD ALONG THE
COAST BRINGING THE POTENTIAL FOR ANOTHER WINTER STORM FOR THE MID
ATLANTIC SOMETIME LATER MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT.

Of course, it's too early to say what will actually happen, but we've learned to be ready, haven't we?

Hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.

You were correct last time while the MSM said we'd only get snow flurries. I listen to you.
