In the wake of a deadly shooting in Arizona, questions have surfaced about whether the type of weapon, concealed weapon permits and other gun control issues contributed to the incident.
The shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and more than a dozen of her constituents in Tucson this weekend has sparked criticism of Arizona’s lax gun control laws and renewed calls from some to tighten those restrictions. Six individuals were confirmed dead. Here’s our attempt to briefly break down a few of the issues at play

The New York Times reported that this magazine is banned in six states and D.C., but not in Arizona [1]. Between 1994 and 2004 when the assault weapons ban was in effect, gun manufacturers such as Glock could not market handguns with high-capacity magazines. If the ban were still in effect, it's less likely that Loughner could have obtained a gun with a high-capacity magazine. Stores could legally only sell used high-capacity magazines at that time, and new magazines could not be manufactured.With his high-capacity weapon, Loughner was able to fire 31 shots [4] before needing to reload. He was stopped while trying to reload.
President Bush backed the ban, and an amendment to extend it passed [3] in the Senate in 2004 but was never voted on by the House.

We have killings every day in the U.S. , however they do not have the coverage that this has. Cops shooting cop in Baltimore , the officer who killed the people on the army base in texas and on and on , the guy who cut up his girl friend.(will we outlaw knives?) The guns don't kill people , people kill people. This guy could have done the same with a 22 cal..

We will always have a few nuts that roam the streets , everyone should not suffer because of the attitude of a few.
If we didn't live in such a passive society, afraid to defend ourselves because of anti-self-defense laws, this idiot would have been dead before the 3rd piece of brass hit the ground. In situations like this seconds count. If it was everyones immediate reaction to eliminate the threat, and everyone were carrying a concealed (or openly carrying) firearm, this clown would have met his maker rather than an overworked judicial and prison system. Instead, we're instructed as kids that fighting is wrong period. Even in self defense fighting gets you suspended from school and emboldens bullies because bullies are likely future criminals who aren't worried about the rules. The kids who are bullied are usually kids who try to follow the rules, get an education. etc. Those kids grow up to "follow the rules" and will never break laws - even those that violate constitutional rights.
People have been killing people since the beginning of time. That won't stop. What needs to stop is the pointing out that inanimate objects are to blame. With that line of thinking, more people die every year in traffic accidents. Should we outlaw cars too?
Falls kill more that 20,000 people a year. More than half of them from ladders. Should we ban ladders?
This talk of banning firearms is foolish, not to mention it violates the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. Repeal all of the unconstitutional regulations dealing with the carrying of concealed firearms and you will see a great decrease in violent crimes against persons.
