But the price for a first-class stamp will remain at 44 cents
WASHINGTON — Postal rates will go up in April, but the cost of sending the basic letter will remain the same.
The Postal Service said Thursday that most rates will go up on April 17 under a formula that allows the agency to increase prices within the rate of inflation.
The post office said the 44-cent price of a first-class stamp will remain unchanged, but heavier letters will cost more. The basic rate is for the first ounce, and the price for each extra ounce will rise from 17 cents to 20 cents.

Do we need a postal service anymore?
"Do we need a postal service anymore?"
Useless question until Congress decides they are willing to even entertain options. Are there better options? Sure. Are there more efficient options? Sure. Are there less costly options? Sure.
Are there any elected officials willing to review options? No.
The postal service has NO leadership , these people do not earn their salaies. They are by far the most unproductive individuals in the U.S. . I put them in line with the people receiving welfare and refuse to work.
Wow, I am glad I do not live on the ES. Some bitter people there.
This is why the postal service is in trouble now. They have raised their prices until they priced themselves almost out of business. Cause everytime their prices go up........it drives more people to the internet. Way to go Federal Government!!!!
7:35 You probably wouldn't fit in people don't like handouts and government intrusion so keep your welfare butt in Baltimore.
You got that right, I would not fit in amongst right wingnuts and uneducated rednecks.
More of those in Baltimore...hon stay over there with the misfits and screw ups.
I don't know how they can justify another increase when they're not even doing the job correctly.
For the past few weeks, we have receieved mail that doesn't even belong to us. I'm not talking the occasional letter. I'm talking STACKS of other people's mail. Some aren't even our neighbors. On those days, we don't get ANY mail, which is not normal, so we're thinking that other people are getting OUR mail! What really makes it frustrating is when you complain to the post office and they just blow you off!
We will talk about the post office like we do about dial phones, check books, sliderules.
Funny that during the last snow storm my mailbox was clear of snow and I still didnt get mail. I recently went to Jersey and the day they got 6 inches of snow I saw a mail truck with chains on the tires out delivering mail. Mail service on the shore is lazy, inept and pathetic. I NEVER didnt get mail during or after a snow storm when I lived in the midwest and my postal worker walked her route. If the disgruntled rednecks around here only knew what work really is.
