RSC Update

The question on the mind of every American and small business owner is a simple one: “what will my tax burden look like in 2011?” It is incumbent upon this Congress to answer that question with a firm commitment and a vote today to prevent a massive tax hike next year. Instead, Democrats are feeding the uncertainty in our economy by wavering and preparing to adjourn without a vote on this issue. That is unacceptable.

Speaker Pelosi is willing to toss this issue into an unpredictable and politically loaded lame duck session. Such an action does not respect our nation’s job creators who are already sitting on the sidelines waiting to see what taxes, mandates, and other regulatory impediments Congress will impose on them.

Before adjourning, Congress must also vote on a continuing resolution to keep the government open and functioning. This is because Democrats have failed to even propose a budget this year, not to mention follow the normal appropriations process. Predictably, this continuing resolution is ripe for the Democrat leadership to ram through additional, unrelated spending that will add even more to our nation’s debt. The RSC has put forth a better solution. Our plan would fund the government for the entire year while reducing spending to 2008 levels, before the era of bailouts and stimulus. It would also defund ObamaCare.

We cannot stay on the same path toward insurmountable debt while taking money away from hard-working American families and job creators. We must put our fiscal house in order today to ensure or our children and grandchildren have the same opportunities for success tomorrow.
