More than 100 protesters were arrested outside the White House Monday. They were part of a large demonstration against mountaintop removal mining.
The impassioned group called on President Barack Obama and Congress to ban what they believe to be an environmentally unsafe practice.
Mountaintop mining involves clearing forests. Explosives are used to blow holes in the earth to expose the coal. Machines then scoop out the coal. Sometimes the debris is then dumped into streams.
The protestors were arrested and taken to a bus. Supporters cheered them on as they were led away. Most went peacefully, but a few resisted. The arrest charges ranged from crossing police lines to non-compliance of demonstration regulations.

SOMETIMES the debris is dumped into streams???? SOMETIMES??? ALL the time...Thats what the big deal is....rivers and streams are choked off, not repaired, and the people and wildlife downstream wither and die. Coal companies move on and shrug their shoulders. But the victims are mostly poor rural people with no clout and nothing for "campaign contributions". If there were a few million dollar "campaign contributions", Obama would probably have those coal companies start making cotton t-shirts. Or a few well-placed bribes could do the trick. Wait. Hold up. They're the same thing!! My bad....I guess those poor people better move. Or just die.
