Delaware State Police New Castle County 911 Academy

What: Delaware State Police New Castle County Citizens 911 Academy

When: Wednesday evenings for six weeks from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm beginning September 22, 2010

Who: Any citizen of New Castle County interested in learning about the operations of the Delaware State Police Emergency Communications Operation in New Castle County. The class will be limited to the first 12 candidates.

Synopsis: The Delaware State Police will be hosting a Citizens 911 Academy for those New Castle County residents who are interested in learning about the duties and responsibilities of a telecommunication specialist who work in the counties 911 center.

The academy will include courses of instruction in the areas of training, hiring, processing 911 calls, computer aided dispatching and the Amber Alert program. Participants will have the opportunity to tour DSP communication facilities and a mobile command post. In addition, they will participate in a “sit-a-long” where they will have the opportunity to work directly with a telecommunication specialist and monitor live 911 calls and the dispatching of proper resources.
