A recent Rasmussen poll shows that 75 percent of Americans place responsibility for state budget problems on politicians’ unwillingness to cut government spending and not on taxpayers’ unwillingness to pay more in taxes.
In fact, only 13 percent of the adults surveyed blamed the unwillingness of Americans to pay more in taxes as the cause of state budget woes. Another 12 percent were undecided about the issue.
These data come as 80 percent of those polled said their state is facing a budget crisis.
Rasmussen noted that this latest poll reinforces one from February, which showed that 83 percent of Americans “blamed the federal budget deficit on politicians’ unwillingness to cut spending,” and a May 2009 poll, in which 77 percent said “politicians’ unwillingness to cut spending is the bigger problem in America today.”

The problem is not all spending but mainly defense spending. At roughly 800 Billion a year it dwarfs every other portion of our budget. You have to combine Social security, medicare, and welfare just to match how much we spend on the defense budget, especially when you count the 2 wars we are in right now. The other shocking thing is that if you combine the defense budgets of every other country in the world it only comes to around 650 billion. Now I'm not saying to completely de-fund it but something needs to be done, and looking into cutting programs that help people of our own country, while ignoring money that has mainly only been used to kill those of other countries is just fiscally irresponsible.

You are right. Lets just give up our defense and let the peace loving Muslims come here and force us into Sharia law. Then our wives and mothers and daughters can wear those high fashion clothes, be stoned for commiting adultry and be treated as second class citizens. Those peace loving Muslims have stated their goal to convert the world to Sharia law, so yes by all means lets cut our defense spend, oh heck, lets just do away with it completely.

You obviously didn't read any of my comment past the first sentence. Had you done so you would have realized that I was not saying cut the entire budget. All I was saying was cut the fat from it. Get rid of the contractors that have all the politicians in their pockets and rethink the way we've been doing things.
I don't honestly think we need 800 billion a year to fight Muslims with elementary level educations. We just need to do things differently, instead of keeping ourselves mired down in 2 unwinnable wars, we could pull back and focus on protecting ourselves on our home turf.
1:42 PM...I was stoned when I committed adultry...I think.
