I don't understand! These kids could go to school today!! Why!!! NO school????

There is hardly any snow outside and none sticking to the roads. I don't understand. Dr. Fredericksen is from Minnesota and they have snow every single day during the winter so this leads me to believe that Fredericksen has an agenda.

7:03 AM - Do you think maybe, just maybe, they may have done it as a precaution due to future weather predictions? Stop and think before you make a remark that is obviously not well thought out.

THIS IS BECOMING RIDICILOUS

this is insane. I don't want to hear the excuse that they are going off the predicted snow fall today either! Multiple weather services stated that their would be no road accumulation. They don't want to work...plain & simple! Kids are going to be in school until July and how many parents are wearing their employers thin...Local economy be damned...we want the day off because of what "could" happen. Right...I'm buying that.

They don't WANT to work? Seriously? Do you have any idea how stressed out everyone who works in the school system is about testing due to all of the missed days? Everyone WANTS to work and WANTS the students to be in school so they can succeed! And they won't be in school until July. They won't go past June 18, period.

Here we go again. Schools are closed, rather you agree or not. If the forecast is correct, which is what all counties BOE usually rely on, and there was school today, than who do you think would be the first to moan and groan "why did they open schools today".

Get to work and EARN your money instead of calling off days so you and your employees can sit on their A$$

You guys complain if they don't close schools, then complain if they do.

Cry if they do cry if they don't! Just move on!Get over it and adjust

You people are never happy, leave Dr Fredrickson alone. Maybe you who complain so much should all apply for a teaching job. You would have all that time off and all that money they make on your pocket. Also you could spend all day with those lovely little children who are perfect angels and don't ever act up or derespect their elders. Sounds like a dream...follow the yellow brick road right to the Board of Ed and pick yourself up and application today. The roads are clear so you won't have a problem. Now,I understand why this younger generation is so ungrateful and disrespectful. Quit complaining and teach these children to be grateful for the wonderful life they do have. They could be starving over in Haiti with no family members left to speak of and no school to even go to. Wake up people! Life is short find some goodness in it before it leaves you.

Joe do you honestly believe most teachers do no earn their pay as is being stated on your blog? I am not a teacher and my kids are adults. I would be willing to bet that the ones doing the most complaining could not cut it as a teacher. I also feel that parents should ALWAYS have a back up plan for the care of their children INCASE schools are closed for some reason. I know I did when my kids were in school and my grown children have a backup plan now. If you are going to have kids make arrangements. It is your duty and responsibility as a parent, not your employer's or the BOE.

anonymous 7:57, that is a ridiculous question. Commenters here have all sorts of opinions and do not represent my opinion, unless "I" state it.

Is there any snow in Wicomico? I am near the county line and we have no snow on the roads and maybe a slight dusting in patches. Wouldn't it make more sense to have school and IF the predicted weather is correct have early dismissal? That would allow students and teachers some time to get some work in and kids would be able to bring home assignments to increase study time as well. Obviously the weather pattern has changed hence not having any snow on the ground, so why would Wicomico believe the forecast for today is accurate? Wow that seems like another bad call to close schools.

Grow up people. What would you do if you lived in the snow belt. You would have something else to whine about. Get over it.

looks like the teachers not working today are out in full force. Bet they still get paid, unlike some of the working stiffs that have to call out of work today, and all the other days this month. But hey..no skin off their nose.

7:56, you say wake up people well you might need to wipe the sleep from your eyes for a clear view. In case you haven't noticed people in our country are homeless, there are kids sleeping in beds with all of their siblings in a hotel bed because their parents house was foreclosed. Believe it or not those are some of the lucky ones because they are not sleeping in a car on in a tent in the woods. There are children going to bed hungry every single night and kids that are thankful for school days because that's the only time they have hot meals and can take their coats off and enjoy some heat.

What happened in Haiti is a horrible natural disaster but what is happening here in the states isn't a natural disaster it is what happens we people stop giving a damn about the family down the street. So wake up and see what is happening all around you.

Holy crap people! You guys basically went on a headhunt two weeks ago because they DIDN'T close schools. Now, they made the decision EARLY as a precautionary measure and you still want his head on a stick.

Personal responsibility! Have a plan? That would be to easy and no gonverment involement needed, we can't have that in the Nanny State

Can someone tell me where the snow is ?? I am in Salisbury NO SNOW ! is it still coming ??

Please don't turn this into a teacher bashing session like last week. Teachers do not make a decision about school closings. If anything, teachers want to be in the classroom because of the up coming state testing. Closing schools makes it harder on teachers. Please, again. Let's not start on the teachers.

Stupid is as stupid does!

With no snow in sight a good call would have been to send kids to school and send then home early if the snow made its way to delmarva. Teachers don't make the decisions to close school...teachers don't want to be home anymore then parents want their kids missing school. Give teachers a break......The teaching profession is no different than any other profession they work just as hard as anyone else. Its because of teachers that our youth are educated and given many opportunities!!

If you can read this...thank a teacher.

I'm going to sit home all day, eat, blog on this site, and watch On-Demand Movies. Plus, I'll still be paid for doing vitually nothing. I'm not a teacher, I'm on welfare. Thanks taxpayers.

8:02 Joe, I am very sorry you feel my question was ridiculous. I was brought up to believe there is no such thing as a ridiculous or stupid question, so was not expecting that come back from you.

I was not asking commenters what they thought. I was asking you what YOU thought about all the bashing of our educaters. I felt a good comment from you would go a long way for people to show more respect. Like it or not, our kids are required to be in school until age 16, so we need good teachers. We need to respect the teachers and teach our children to do the same. If the commenters are mouthing off in front of their children the stuff they write on here what is this teaching the child? Do you go along with that statement.

I don't mind getting my feelings hurt twice today for asking a stupid question if you would like to accuse me of that again.

9:41 if your students are as special as you are I sure hope they don't forget their helmets today...moron. Any I repeat ANY teacher, public or private, go through the same damn training. God some of you people make me ill. Grow up and stop acting like a bunch of 5 year olds on the playground.
