The county should go ahead now and close for Tuesday also. with the big budget cuts, it would be stupid to heat the schools for 1 day. Just lock them and leave them until next year.

I remeber when I was a kid-give me a break. Sure wish I was off tomorrow for 3 inches of snow. However I will be driving to New Castle-see ya there!

Worcester county still open, but delayed by 2 hours?

The roads seemed perfectly fine today. Why close??

That's ridiculous. The main roads are clear and the back roads aren't that bad. Teachers must feel like they've been slighted. I have an idea. Don't pay them if they don't work. Construction workers don't get paid if they can't work due to inclement weather. Why should teachers?

it's not the roads around Salisbury that are the problem; it's the roads in the less traveled areas that are the concern.

A delay would be better!!! Just another day to tack on at the end of the year!! let's go to school on MLK and President's day!!

The backroads are still slushy and freeze tonight. Also the bus ramps were not plowed and salted.

The custodians only did the sidewalks since the BOE contracts out to plow the driveways. With the budget cuts, I doubt there is money to use for that purpose.

I really don't see schools opening on Tuesday either so parents better make plans now.

Not a bad idea anyway...Delmar's and Somerset's last day was Friday anyway. Just stinks that the kids will go till mid June now.

To those of you that don't think schools should be closed, Maybe you better realize everyone doesn't live in Salisbury that got a dusting. I live in the county and got between 5 to 7 inches and the road across from me has yet to see a snow plow...turn arounds on the highway are not clear...at 6 pm sunday night.i turned at the spring hill church and that turn around was awful..we then turned on the first left and a car had spun around and was stuck in the snow..yes the snow. then I almost got stuck becasue i pulled to far over on the shoulder to help her..it would be dangerous to have children on buses out on the back roads tomorrow. it is bad enough unskilled drivers will be driving to work tomorrow and then hit ice ..and Oooopsss accident and that could have been a child going to school so keep them home

Main roads are fine, but many students live on back roads. Those are still a mess. Buses do not do well on ice. The ice is the problem, not the snow.

You need to come to Sharptown if you think the roads are perfectly fine.

Sh*tty snow removal and pathetic public services. Welcome to Wicomico County. Anywhere else and heads would roll for such low quality services. Icy roads days after the storm and what happens, nothing.

Unbelievable. When I was a child growing up in Balto, I remember the buses getting pushed up hills by the men who were digging out to go to work. An hour or two late for morning ice, maybe....but closing? I think it teaches the kids not to do anything hard, only go to school/work if the conditions are perfect. Another day to stay in and get fatter playing video games.

In reality, teachers are not paid for the day off. They get paid for working 190 days a year and this day off must be made-up at the end of the year. The smart one just have their salary spread out over the whole year, so it only seems like they are getting paid for it.

The county's leaders plan to make the people feel the pain of the Revenue Cap. Reduction of services is one way to make everyone feel the pain. The BOE is planning major cuts over the next few years that are sure to piss off almost everyone who works, or has kids in the the school system. Those cuts are the result of serious funding cuts from the county. So, just be ready for more actions like today's closing that make you scratch your head.

There is no head scratching about todays school closing at my house. My road is a sheet of ice and there is no way the bus could get through safely.

12:11 you're exactly right. You need to remember one thing, this is the eastern shore. Anything regarding work here will be put off or delayed so that someone can be lazy. There is no reason why a full day of clear weather that the roads cant be cleared by this morning. NY has 6000 miles of streets in the downtown area, guess what would happen if they decided not to plow a few of them? Welcome to the eastern shore where work is an inconvenience and laziness prevails. Merry Christmas!

Its not a road condition issue, it a issue with some lawsuit crazy son a gun that would get their ass all in a tizzy because the bus slipped in the ditch. I too can remember going to school back in the sixty's with snow well over a foot, and i lived way down in Whitehaven.
