Chesapeake Waste Cheated Friday Customers

We live on Longridge Road in Parsonsburg and have been customers of Chesapeake Waste for many years. This morning a large group of the Friday Customers were cheated by Chesapeake Waste in Salisbury. They played a cruel and disloyal game on us all. They arrived several hours earlier than they ever have and no one was ready. Not to mention the fact they also started our road in the opposite direction which they have never done. What happened - our trash was left behind.

At our house I can always rely on our trash pick up to happen between 10 AM and 2 PM; on a very rare occasion 7:30 but that is during the hot summer months and it is very rare. But Friday they arrived at 5 minutes of 7:00 AM - drove slowly by my house. I ran out the door trying to catch them and they had stopped two houses down (where there is no trash pick up customer) watched me take my trash to the road and then they pulled away. I know they saw me, they had an open view and then pulled away slow. They never came back to get our trash.

Later yesterday afternoon my husband called the office and the girl who answered the phone knew all about it and said, "Yes, no one on Longridge Road and the surrounding area got pick up because you all should have had your trash out early." then she followed up and said, "We will see you on the 26th."

Now Joe, if you were a trash collector owner and you were planning to collect early - what would you do? Give your customers advance notice - they have done this on occasion in the past too. But the owner must be a crook because they won't honor their service to all of us who were left behind. I could see it if it was one house but not 25+.

We have come to the conclusion that Chesapeake Waste purposely came early with the intention of NO PICK UP to reduce their dumping fee for the day. They were probably having their Christmas party and needed the money for that and if they gave bonuses the savings on the dumping fee would pay for those as well. I almost wonder if this company is not in financial trouble and now the customers are being robbed.

Merry Christmas Chesapeake Waste - thanks for ROBBING US BLIND.

Put your trash out the night before. Problem solved. With everything that is going on around the country this seems stupid to complain about.

this is the most rediculous post EVER! your actually complaining the trash was picked up @ a different time. i could see you complaining if they never picked it up @ all. thats a locally owned business that has survived the fatefull economy. lets be glad that worldwide coprate-WASTE MANAGEMENT hasnt drowned them. i jus still cant believe that write up actually got posted. put ur time & effort into something better. go volunteer to ringa bell.....

Put you trash out the night before. I do and they have always picked it up.

I stopped using chesapeake long ago. I use the county landfill transfer sites. For about $50 per year, it's money well spent despite my personal feelings on how the county handles that money.

Chesapeake Waste makes it very clear that you need to have your trash out early, preferably the night before. I think that gives them the right to pick it up whenever they want on the day of your pick up. I'm sure their entire business doesn't revolve around your street.

We used to have Chesapeake where I work. They were not very customer friendly. Our trash was not picked up many times for what ever reason. We switched to Bennett Waste in Fruitland and have had great service. Their customer service is also great.

Stop relying on trash service and take your trash to the dump yourself. That will remove the frustration and save $$$.

Never had a problem. When your in this type of business there are occasions that pickup times may change due to road conditions and weather. Like others my trash is out on Thursday nites. One time I was out of town and my wife forgot about the trash. An employee went behind my home to get the container.

This is silly. Put your trash out the night before like most people. We may not be aware of route changes within Chesapeake, and it's not their responsibility to call each and every customer for that day. They make it clear to put trash out the night before is case of a schedule change. I myself have noticed a change in our pickup time, but was not effected as I put my trash out the night before.

Although I understand people saying put it out the night before, I can also sympathize with the person. We had a similar experience. Our pickup day is Thursday. That being said, Thanksgiving being on a Thursday, we called to ask when they would be coming. We were told they would not be picking up our trash that week at all. We asked if they were crediting our bill for one week and they said NO. They were very nasty on the phone and simply said that's just how it is! I'm wishing I had control over something of theirs I could stop for one week and simply tell them that's the way it is! Maybe their telephone or something. They have a good price, but the old expression "You get what you pay for" really is warranted here them!

I am glad your life is so great that this is all you have to worry about. Awesome!

Now, let this blog deal with real problems.

You got robbed alright. When you refuse to comply with agreed upon terms of service the service provider is absolutely required to change those terms to accommodate your laziness. If they don't they're guilty of robbery and they need to be punished for your wrong doing.

As with any trash company, you are supposed to put it out the night before. Chesapeake is the cheapest service in town. Furthermore, I am sure they won't give you any problem if you put out double the normal amount next week. As for taking it to the dump yourself, have you figured in the price of gas, wear and tear on your vehicle, and the value of your time?

Our trash is usually picked up around 6AM. IF we don't get it out the night before, we get missed.

I have no sympathy for any of you if you're too lazy to get it out earlier or on the previous night.

We got passed over by trash pick up several times with WM and switched to Chesapeake and have never had a problem with the service we get from them. They do tell you when you sign on with them to have the can out the night before so it won't get missed. Sounds to me you should do so this week so it won't get missed again. You have to remember they have routes to make good on and can't please everyone all of the time. Just because your trash is usually picked up at a certain time does not mean that is their set schedule. Also the phone book is full of other companies you can switch over to and I am quite sure when they PISS you off you can switch again since trash removal is such a glorious job everyone is wanting to get in on the action!

I have trash collection with Allied waste. They come on Friday, but at there time, not a schedule. Have for over 30 years. Having been BFI and other companies over those years.
Fact is, the trash gets put out on Thurs. They pick it up sometimes Friday morning at as early as 5 A.M. and late as 3 P.M in the afternoon. No big deal folks.
Tough luck. Put your trash out the day before like we do. It's no big deal.
Bunch of cry babies.

I have Chesapeake waste as well. They tell you the night before to put your trash out. How hard can that be? I've almost missed them a few times but if I do, ITS MY FAULT!!

We have been a customer of Chesapeake Waste for 5 yrs.+.
The contract states to have the waste can out the night before.
Great freindly people both in the office and on the trucks. Almost 1/2 the price of Waste Management.
GREAT LOCAL BUSINESS!!!!

who is chesapeake waste?

Robbing you blind...really...because of one day. Put your trash out the night before like most and stop complaining. You work around their pick up schedule, they don't workaround yours.

I use Chesapeake and this happened to me once. I called the office and they were as nice as could be. They called the guys in the truck and they came back and picked it up. I am a nurse and I work nightshift and did not got home in time to put it out. They tell you to put it out the night before when you sign up for delivery, so it is your own fault and if they had not come back for mine I would have had only myself to blame. I would venture to guess that they didn't help you because you probably called them acting like an idiot. Ever heard of the county dump? If you don't like it cancel your pickup!

i only wish this was my biggest problem to worry about...

I have to chime in on this one because I used to drive a trash truck for another company. The job sucks, but it is a job and a very difficult one at that. I cannot speak for the company but I can say with the pending uncertain weather the trucks more than likely headed out early to avoid any potential weather related problems. The last thing the state and county want on the roads is trash trucks holding up snow plows! If you did what all trash companies ask which is put the trash out the evening before, there would be no problems here.

As far as rushing off to get to a Christmas party are you serious? The last thing I wanted to do was feed my face after I had been dealing with various peoples trash all day long! Like the house on Mt. Harmon rd where the woman would puke in small trash bags and then fill a container with the little bags full of vomit. Or the persons that would throw their syringes in the containers without snapping the needles risking my and my helpers health, there are hazardous containers for that purpose you know?! Or how about the certain household in Delmar that would throw dead animals in the containers and allow them to rot in the closed tote until the next pick up day. It is a common misconception that people who work on trash trucks, driving or throwing, are dirty uneducated people. That is not always the case; there are many people on trucks that are there because they are supporting their families and are willing to put in a hard days work in order to do it if that's what they must do. If you have such an issue with the company do like others said take your trash to the dump yourself!

Here's another idea stop thinking the world is out to make you miserable because I am sure that's not the case and one more thought how about you stop thinking the world revolves around you and maybe just maybe there was a logical reason the truck came early!

Instead of complaining about trash pickup why not look around and pick up all the blown trash from the litterbugs around here. Seems like an easier more productive thing to do.

We have NEVER had a problem in the 4+ years we have been using them for personal and business trash. We switched to Chesapeake because Waste Management jacked their prices to double of Chesapeake charges. It's freakin' trash, either take it to the dump yourself or wait till next week and PUT IT OUT THE NIGHT BEFORE and there would be no problem. As far as the “robbing us blind” comment…they charge about $4.15 a week for residential trash… I bet you blow more money a week than that on frivolous items.

C/ waste . cheapest guy in town . keep up the good work Dean

I to put my trash out before I left for work Friday morning, as I have always done, and came home to a full trash can!! We should'nt have to put it out early, that only allows animals to get into it and possible other criminals looking for personal information!! They should have let their customers know in advance of any early pick ups!!! They had no problem notifying us of the holiday changes!!!

10:47, rip your personal information up into little pieces it takes less time than dragging your covered trashcans to the end of the driveway the night before pick up! You see if you keep a proper fitting lid on the can with the trash tied closed in bags the likelihood of animals getting in to the can is slim. If you tear up your personal information I seriously doubt a person searching for your "personal" information is going to take the time to look for the pieces to tape them back together!

Man some of you people need to get over it for goodness sake. After all this is supposed to be a time of joy and celebration not a time of boohoo and passing the buck because YOU did not do what the company tells you to do from the get go! After all YOU are the ones that did not follow the guidelines, so how's about taking some responsibility for your own actions instead of blaming the company.
