While Chief See & Deputy Chief Gordy made their Staff move, relocate and or trash all the heavy stuff, it was time today to bring in the professionals to finish off the rest of the evacuation of the old Fire Station 16. Your tax dollars hard at work again Folks. Is 4 Moving Trucks overkill, when the building was pretty much empty? There must have been quite a few bucks left over in the checking account.

They were moving a very large safe out of the basement Joe, an item we do not have the equipment to handle.
Mayflower of course, the do all the work and are very expensive. It's only taxpayer money and the mare isn't running again so what the hell.
Pubic works could have moved that stuff at no additional cost to the taxpayers if they did it on a rainy day when they needed to find something to do anyway if they can't work outside.

Look more carefully, or click on the top picture and you'll see THREE big trucks and one smaller one. One of the trucks is down in the basement level. Just to clarify this for everyone, there are 4 trucks there.

The moving company relocated a large gun safe from the basement to the new station. This safe is where the historical photos and artifacts are stored for the Heritage center. It weighs quite a bit and it had to get to the new station somehow.

I'm cool with that, but 4 trucks? I believe that was a massive over kill, wouldn't you agree? I'll add, why couldn't Public Works do this move?
Now Joe, IF some of the city employees got hurt moving that heavy stuff (that was not in their job description), they would be out on workmen's comp for awhile so IMO it was better to hire outside help and you know I am no friend of the city. I live in the county too.

IT is a cheap gun safe that you can buy at WalMart. The vollies bought it, but it doesn't need 4 moving trucks contracted to move it.

I cannot tell you how many properties we have sold where the people left behind a heavy safe.
Why?
The cost of a safe, even an old one is usually around $200 to $500.
The cost to move a safe, especially an old one is $2,000 to $5,000 *IF* it's done right.
Heaven forbid the city leave behind a $500 safe, so they spend $5,000.00 to move it.
Who wants to bet that same $5,000.00 that this building never goes to public auction?
It will be handed off in some sort of convoluted private back-room deal to political supporters.
