While the state of Maryland uses a 10% mix ratio of ethanol gas at the pumps, Salisbury News will break an amazing story NO ONE has been made aware of.
Have you noticed your lawn mower not running as smooth as usual? Have you noticed you 4 wheelers bogging down and not running normal? ALL of these kinds of equipment are suffering horribly and let me tell you why.
Ethanol has alcohol in it. The rubber gaskets used in the carburetors of these kinds of equipment were not made to work with any form of alcohol.
Therefore, Bulletins have been sent out to all sellers and equipment repair companies that sell Briggs & Stratton and Koller Engines are VOIDING all warranties with ANYTHING that has used ethanol gas! Oh, it gets worse!
You're not only getting less gas mileage with ethanol, the state of Maryland is going to go from its current regulation of 10% this year to 20% next year!
YOU need to call your Congressmen. You know, like Wayne Gilchrest, the guy who's still being paid. The guy who allowed such crap into our fuel without being educated and slam these guys immediately before things get worse.
You see, the major problem here is, automobile engines are also having major issues with their gaskets, yet no one knows about it. Think of the dramatic end result that would happen with automobile sales already at an all time low. The Auto Makers won't say a word because everyone will run scared and right now is NOT the time for these guys to be raising any stink about this major issue.
In the end you'll get higher maintenance costs, less engine life and lower gas mileage. Gotta love those environmentalists, eh? If Congress doesn't want to get out there and become educated, educate them yourselves. It's time we take back this Country from these bullshit artists who claim they're representing "WE THE PEOPLE. Instead, they're screwing We The People!

That post is mostly untrue! When ethanol was first put into fuel back in the seventies it caused all those problems. Remember corn gas? Since that time engine makers have been using seaqls and gaskets that tolorate ethanol.
This post is not very good. The 10% blend has been used in Delaware for two plus years. Lawnmowers are still running, 4 wheeler's work. E85 absolutely will lower your mileage hence it sells for a lower price (if you can find it). E10 will cause a 1 or 2% decrease in mileage. A loss is a loss however I don't think we need to find a rope for a hanging just yet. The upside of the ethnaol is it replaced MTBE which was mandated by the government and obviously a very bad pollutent. The EPA requires ethanol blends over 10% be posted as such to prevent the engine troubles Joe has referenced.
Looks to me like Mr. Gordy is an early riser. Look, the article states that TWIO manufacturers are voiding their warrantees on engines, (these are just two manufacturers my friend sells) based on ethanol.
Of course an anonymous person will step up here and make such statements, especially if they're in the gasoline business.
Sometimes you get news and information here well before the MSM picks up on it, that's just the way it is. In this case, those bulletens went out two months ago and they should have been on top of it then.

We get at least 10 mpg fewer using gas with ethanol. That's with a fresh tune-up. Consequently need to gas up more often. What are you saving here? Seems to me to be just another government RIP OFF, infringing on MY individual rights to buy the gas I want. Who asked for it? We don't NEED it. Why have to have it? No amount of "tire pressure" is gonna fix it, as suggested by BO.
If government can't control the people, they control the peoples choices. Witness the CFB's being shoved down our throats!

I got my 4 wheeler out the other day after sitting in the garage for a couple of months. It ran like crap. I believe that it was the fuel. It seems that gas with 10% ethanol added doesn't have the self life of straight gas.
The problem with your 4 wheeler is most likely the fuel. Ethanol (ethyl alcohol) has a high % of alcohol. Over time the alcohol will absorb water. It may also be responsible for braking down gaskets in engines that have not been designed for a bio fuel blend.
husbands f-150 "06" truck had to have the throttale body fuel inj. system fixed 1200.00 for part and labor. He asked the ford company (that fixed the truck)could the ethnaol cause the problem. They stated yes we believe it does. That they have seen more problems with the ethnaol being used.
There is a bigger problem here then just voided warranties..... Ethanol is what is driving up our food prices. Since it is more profitable to farmers, they are switching over from other crops to make more money. There was an article in TIME about this a few months back. It said that the amount of corn it takes to make one tank of gas for an average SUV could feed one person for an entire year. Now, that's food for thought.
Ha, this post is absurd. Ethanol is not making any gaskets break -- ethanol is the best progress we've had in domestic fuel production in a long time. I think the Eastern Shore, which is what Gilchrest represents, needs to build an ethanol plant and harvest all of that corn into ethanol. This would be an important step for domestic energy and a cash cow for Marylanders.
My understanding is that when it sets up for any amount of time that the ethanol will acually seperate from the gas and when it does it will actually absorb water That is one of the reasons you don't see anywhere near as many problems in automobiles as you do in other equipment that is not used everyday (lawnmowers,atvs,garden tillers,tractors,weedeaters,chainsaws and boats)this has become especialy critical on boats which usually sit idle for months at atime and contain large tanks of fuel which are prone to condensation from temp changes and the fuel vents. I had a boat mechanic tell me that 85% of his buisness now was carberator work because of it. Stabil even came out with a new blend of stabilizer just for ethanol. He told me when you take a carberator apart it will look like it has cottage cheese in it. To winterize it he actually has to buy aviation gas and run through the carbs evidently they don't have ethanol in that yet.
Frank, you're a fry short of a happy meal. Ethanol farming in Maryland will just help contribute to rising food costs around the country. The cost of Soy-beans, wheat, barley, watermelons, and other local produce will sky rocket if all the farmers switch to corn. It's basic economics. Do some research on other sustainable energy sources before you back one.
I have a new car designed to run up to 80% ethanol. The owners manual gives mileage rates for just gasoline and 80% etanol/gas mix. It's 24 mpg for gas and 14 mpg for the ethanol mix. So, if we get to that ratio, and prices remain the same we will be paying alomst twice as much for fuel in actual cost per mile!
Everyone knows that E=mc2. At 186,281 mps squared, that's a huge amount of energy from very, very little mass. There has to be a better, cleaner, much more efficient way of converting mass to energy than nuclear fusion and fission. God does it every second! There is so much more energy than we could ever need within our grasp if we can figure out how to accomplish this. We should easily be able to operate a vehicle for 100,000 miles on the energy contained in an ear of corn.

I'd go with the clean, American corn ethanol over the dirty, Arab crude oil any day.
Technology for corn ethanol will only improve as the oil wells dry up.

If you can't afford to eat and die b/c of starvation then the prices of oil will fall since demand will too.
Even better.... boycott expensive oil when you can and ride a bike around town. I do.
e85 is pretty useful - reduces a lot of bad pollutants in the environment. Plus it saves money overall. I've seen in several reports that ethanol production has little effect on food prices. And since alternative energy production is so critical, it seems to me that we need to figure out the best way to utilize this resource; reducing foreign oil dependency and reducing the amount of money that flies out of my pocket whenever I fill up - that's what I'm thinking about here. Ethanol is a good option.

I can tell you for a fact that since the 1st week of May a boat that I am well fimiliar with has had issues.... The boat is over 10yrs old and over the yrs had built up a varnish on the inside of the tank. When Ethanol fuel was introduced it quickly dissovled the varnish and resilted in:
2-fuel pumps
6- filters
pumping out the fuel tank and rinsing.
and now the carb has just been rebuilt and yet to be replaced...
The jury is out as to weather it will run correctly once the carb is installed.
The fuel line (supply from the tank) will also get replaced as the Coast Guard changed the requirments for fuel line because the Ethanol has the ability to permiate the older type hose???
Where is the for-thought of our legislators when they make idiotic decisions????
If you think it's bad now, wait till Maryland goes to 20% ethanol!!!!!
1:08 forgot to add the fuel pumps were in excess of $200.00 ea.
