The Maryland Senate approved a tax package today that will increase the Sales, Tobacco and Corporate income tax rates. This is their way to raise more than $1.4 billion as the General Assembly works to address the state's structural budget deficit.
The Senate plan, (which passed on a 24-23 vote) is expected to change during a conference with the House of Delegates in a special session called by Gov. Martin O'Malley. The House is working on their own tax legislation that is shaping up in significantly different ways and is expected to reach the floor for debate as early as today.
"We seem to be so concerned about, (as the governor calls them) the working poor, and it seems to me they're going to be the people who are going to own cars that are 10 or 12 years old and break down more often," said Del. D. Page Elmore, an Eastern Shore Republican. "This will be a tax on the working poor."
More to come..........

It's long past time that you dropped that pic of you and Marty O'Money-Your, the disgusting governor.
The statement by Elmore is about the Democrat proposal to make auto repair work sunject to the sales tax.
And Andrew Harris voted against slots...go figure!
Obviously you hadn't noticed, I already did change the photo.
Andrew Harris Voted Against slots - Thank you senator!!!
Slots are not our salvation, fiscal responsibility is. Instead we are pushing for more addictive spending behaviors from our legislators. This O'Malley tax increase is a sham, slots or no slots. And even if gambling is passed to appease the few who love it so much, it will mean MORE $$$ for nonsence spending, in he hands of the out of control idiots in our legislative branches.
Senator Harris Thank you for voting your conscious.
Most auto repair shops charge sales tax on parts unless repair is contract price. This is how I do it.I do not know, but I guess now I will have to charge 6% on the contract price.Anyone know for sure?
Yeah right. Give these poeple more easy money and see it disapear real quick. Just like the damned lottery, don't they get enough money out of that?
