SBYNews Exclusive: Again, Who Do You Trust When It Comes To Death Numbers And This Coronavirus?

Since this covid 19 has been tracked in the USA since January and it’s now the end of April, I was wondering how the TOTAL number of deaths for that 4 month period compares to previous years. Looking through the CDC web pages and the index mundi.com sites, I found that the death rates were all divided up by state, demographics and differing causes. After a lot of searching, I was able to find average monthly death rates for 2017, 2018, and 2019, but when I got to 2020, the total death rate was noted to NOT include Covid 19 deaths, as those were found separately and I could add up the two to get a grand total number.

Adding up all the states list that EXCLUDES the Covid 19 comes to 938,000 deaths so far this year. Adding the COVID 19 only deaths for the US, 63,000 brings the total number of deaths so far this year to 991,000.

US average for 2017 @ 325m population (we’re now at 330m, or 1% higher) was 991,000 deaths for the first 4 months of the year, adding for the 1% population increase in 2019 @ 330m brings the average to 1,001,000.

So that means we’re 8,000 deaths BEHIND IN OVERALL DEATHS for the year!

The chart shows that the maximum crude death rate since 1950 varied from minus 1.37% to plus 1.37% with lesser variations when the curves were reversing.

So, that puts our 2020 death rate curve in a nose dive at an approximate 1% DOWN RATE! Considering that the winter months Dec through March are the usual higher rate of the year, we’re doing GREAT!

Why are we shut down, again?

FULL DISCLOSURE: It should be noted that the numbers are SOMEWHAT down because there are less car accident deaths since a lot of the country has been shut down.

It should also be noted that IF we were to open up Ocean City our number of deaths WILL in fact increase. The bottom line is, we still believe the numbers will be within reason of NORMAL deaths from each year to date.

Finally, there are 5,000,000 more people this year (so far) than there were last year in the United States.

Now it's up to you to decide if the shut down is actually in the best "health interest" of the United States. Shame on the MSM for NOT doing this research and brainwashing Americans with BOGUS scare tactics.

I mentioned in a comment yesterday (that didn't get posted) that I have a friend who's grandmother tested negative for COVID twice, but the doctors said the death was COVID because she experienced similar symptoms. She was in hospice care for COPD and Kidney failure and had been given a week to live - so THEN they did the tests. Here again, she was NEGATIVE, but the doctors listed it as a COVID related death anyway.

Ghee, I'm not sure why your comment didn't get posted, it should have. Nevertheless, I can only hope people can appreciate the amount of time and energy that went into this particular article. It took us THREE days to compile and NO other news source is even trying to come up with this factual information.

So, staying home reduces deaths from more than just COVID 19.

No worries. I had link to a Yahoo article that supported my experience of inflated numbers such as the case I pointed out. I'm guessing that's why it didn't show.

True, but staying home and not associating with other humans is not living, either.

OMG Joe. A BIG THANK YOU for taking the time to do this research. From the beginning I had a gut feeling the Covid numbers weren't that big. Every death is sad but it is a part of life and every year a certain amount of folks pass. That's life.
I am guessing you didn't add in the number of babies terminated each year. That would add approximately another million.
Thanks again Joe.

Joe,
What kind of fluctuations happened year to year? Is it consistent or is there an outlier; like the Flu, Cancer, etc... What is the average population increase (growth rate%) in the US year to year? Do they have death by car crash by month over the years? That would be interesting?

I have been saying for awhile that COVID-19 has been around at least since December and now the Media are just starting to realise this.

I work at a Hospital and a lot of us got sick in January. Almost everyone said it was the worse flu ever. Many were having a hard time shaking it off but when you went to the Doctor they never tested you they just said you had the flu and gave some meds then sent you home.

My father who is in his 70's was never so sick before but we still thought it was just the flu.

In the end all of us lived and more than likely have the Antibodies to prove it if we could only get tested for that.

Even people on the west coast said this was a bad flu saison and most caught it around December through January.

149 yes maybe but now 30 million people are out of work and our total economy is on the verge of collapse. So if this doesn’t turn around quickly those numbers will surely go up and this entire country will be in recession. Does that make you happy???

A lot of the other causes of death (car accidents, cancer, heart attacks, stroke, etc.) are very different & shouldn't be compared to this virus or any flu because they are not communicable diseases. You can't control them from occurring but you can take steps to curb spread of viruses.

I know there are fluctuations, so this is it a straight up comparison but if you consider that we are 1/3 of the way through the year check out the Maryland numbers:

17,120 x 3 = 51,360 [yearly MD deaths are 51,453] almost dead-on, normal.

2:41------I've been saying the same thing. Early Jan we attended a funeral in Staten Island. Just about everyone got sick who was there including the children. fevers, some sore throats, runny nose cough that nothing helped. Many went to the doctors some even ER. Many were tested for flu, strep and all negative. Diagnosis was "an aggressive" flu, bronchitis. Thank God no one died and Thank God no one knew about Corona because that would have caused nervous breakdowns especially since so many children were sick. Then more then 1/2 our Staten Island church came down with it and we were even praying back in mid January it was so bad. By Feb most were over it and fine. THEN someone we know died on Feb 7 near Baltimore. Many of the same people attended that funeral also a few days after the 7th. Within days half the people were sick! We've all been talking about it on IG and NO one who got sick after the first funeral got sick at the MD funeral. We are convinced it was Corona.

OK, Joe. I'm confused. Maybe you can help me. The IndexMundi website says that they don't include COVID-19 deaths. Why not? Are these actual deaths, or are they estimates based on the previous year . Do you know where these numbers came from?

I ask because it is really easy to add the current deaths with the COVID-19 deaths to get a total death for each State, and then compare the numbers. Is this a correct assumption? Do the total deaths really represent actual deaths up until April 30, and not estimates.

Now, if so, these are looking like a big nothing. For example, add the total COVID deaths to the total deaths, and you'll get a grand total of deaths. Then, compare it to last year's deaths, divided by 3 (since we are at the first 1/3 of the year). What you get for a few States are:

California Last Year (94,173), this year (96,032)
North Carolina Last Year (31,437), this year (31,786)
Maryland Last Year (17,151), this year (18,177)

I could go on, but you get what I'm doing. I'm asking for clarification because this just seems to fit perfectly, meaning the number of COVID deatsh really haven't made a difference in the total deaths year over year.

Now, to be fair New York really is the anomaly:

New York Last Year (54,939), this year (78,427)

so, NY has a serious problem, but the rest of the States seem similar to last year.

Again, how confident are you in these numbers? Because, if the numbers are accurate, this is a big deal.

True and also take into account it is a new virus so no one was immune. BUT if you look at the percentages from the random antibody testing done in NY and read people's stories who are sure they had it back in Dec even this virus was without any doubts circulating well before we are being told it was. the hospitals weren't overwhelmed then or was there any fear of it happening. It was only when it was announced pandemic and people like cuomo were fear mongering did the panic set in and people who so much as coughed ran to the ER's.

You win the award today for most idiotic comment of the day. Yes statistics most certainly an be manipulated The Coronavirus deaths being an example no one can deny they've been manipulated since it's come to light many were presumed. Now explain for all just how these statistics were manipulated. I will save you the time. They weren't manipulated because it's not possible.

Staff Mathematician said...

5:30, that was one of my biggest stumbling points when looking for this year's stats. If you look at the first page of screenshots, it's from the Mundi.com site Coronavirus Deaths. Look all the way down at the bottom of the page at the last line, "United States 63,006". That's what I added to the State by State total go 938,000 from the other page. Makes the 991,000 number which is 9,000 not 8,000 lower as I had first printed in the article. (Crazy how math never lets me lie!)

On another point brought up by another commenter, in 2017, our population was 325m and at the end of 2019, 330m with the wave chart showing a steady rise through those years, so everybody was staying busy back then!

You're welcome.

Anonymous said...

Staff Mathematician,

So at the end of the day, NY is a mess, but the rest of the country hasn’t seen and statistically discernible change in overall death compared to last year. And what’s more, it’s not spread evenly across demographics - it’s mostly older people, and mostly people with underlying conditions. That’s actually good - we can identify the at risk pool and protect them.

The problem is the arrogance of our leaders. Cuomo is NEVER going to say, oops, my bad . And neither is Hogan. So, they become all the more entrenched.

And, NY’s blunder was allowing CV patients back into the nursing home - that likely added 25%of their deaths. And of course keeping the subways going, too. So, take NY out of the mix, and you’re talking about another flu season. And, I don’t say that to be flippant. The flu goes from Dec. - April. CV goes from Feb. - likely June. So, we got two flu seasons in one year.

Also, many deaths would have happened with the normal flu, but CV likely got their first.

Let's get something clear and stick with facts. Fear mongering is NOT ever helpful and serves no purpose. The hospitals were NOT flooded with people dying. Putting aside NYC which was an outlier most hospitals in the US were not seeing much unusual OTHER then the fact that Covid patients can be or become very sick. Due to the severity staff can only handle few patients at a time. 1 RN/2 patients.
