Airmen volunteer to restock Commissary shelves, as demand increases amid pandemic

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — Each day, more than 1,200 customers shop for groceries at the Joint Base Andrews Commissary.

“The necessities, a lot of it, we’re constantly running out, because a distributor can’t supply them. Just like the outside stores...the demand,” said manager Devera King.

King says demand remains high for products like toilet paper and cleaning supplies, which leaves some shelves empty within a few hours.

“It’s just a big challenge overall,” she said.

Joint Base Andrews is a fine commissary. The workers are always friendly, unlike Wal-Mart, and go out of their way to help customers. The workers are mostly military dependents or retirees. It is a good feeling just shopping there and being with military personnel.
