Major crime soars by 22% in New York City as police blame new bail reforms that mean suspects can avoid jail and re-offend

New York City saw a big increase in crime last month compared to the same period in 2019.

Major crimes grew 22.5% in February according to the NYPD with a 7.1% increase in shootings. robbery, assault, burglary, grand larceny, and grand larceny auto crimes.

Murders, however, fell some 20% with 20 people killed in the Big Apple during February. Rape cases also decreased with 125 rapes reported in February 2020 and 133 in February 2019.

Police are blaming recent criminal justice reforms for the rise in crime, according to Fox5.

None of this makes sense, violent crimes are not included in bail reform. NYPD is just crying that they actually have to do some real work and gather real evidence to convict actually guilty people and not maybe guilty people.

Major crimes grew 22.5% yet rape and murder are down 20%? So whats a major crime? If petty theft ie the new burglary is considered a major crime whats murder and rape considered - super major crimes? Major major crimes? Very major crimes?
