Lawmaker Wants to Open a Dialogue About Reparations in Md.

Maryland’s 250-year history of legal slavery came to an end when the practice was abolished on Nov. 1, 1864, nearly a year before the 13th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified.

Del. Wanika B. Fisher (D-Prince George’s) says it’s finally time for Maryland lawmakers to have a talk about how to move forward.

“It’s been 155 years and we haven’t addressed it, and I think if we keep going we’re never going to address it, and it continues to be something that’s impossible,” she said.

“I think it’s very possible.”

What about reparations to every group that was ever enslaved or treated unjustly in the past?

What about my Irish Ancestors who were forced to work for the British, or my Scottish ancestors who had their lands taken away from them and he were forced to work off passage to get here as an indentured servant?

What about the American Indian?
How about people in past who were enslaved as a result of war?

Or how about every white family that has every been victimized by black on white crime?

Or how about being passed up for a job or promotion due to affirmative action, even though that person scored higher and was more qualified for a job or entrance to college?

DNA for every person in America is the only wY to determine your eligibility... sounds more like a trap to have your DNA on file

It's only "not impossible" in the months before an election in which one or more Democrats are running for office and are fishing for black votes. After each election it once again returns to "impossible ."

Listen, Wanika...

Black DEMS owned more slaves in the south than whites SO GO AFTER THEM.

How about repaying the people who really got screwed over, the American Indian.

Because affirmative action wasn't enough? How about going after the Dutch who traded Africans? How about the tribal leaders who sold their countrymen into slavery for whatever trinkets or money they thought they needed at the time? How about you are now living in what is considered to be the greatest country in the world, with free (although sub-par) education and the ability to cross financial classes if you want to badly enough?

How about, we can send you "home" if you really think you're still owed ANYTHING for the privilege of living here?

How about reparations for all the lives of those of different colors who fought and died to free you?

I am tired, so very, very tired of hearing about "reparations" - the debt is canceled!!!!!

Who's responsible for enslaving everyone to pay taxes now? Taxation is slavery and every year these dems want more for them and less for you and I. Lets start a gofundme to send wanika to prison for slavery.

Highly sophisticated 'State-level' attacks [v 8kun] followed by FAKE NEWS attacks [v Q] the next day?
Coordinated?
Ask yourself a simple question —– why?
It's time to wake up.

i want reparations for violation of my constitutional rights by the dems in this state

Anonymous said...

We are the only country that had slaves.

Anonymous said...

History kind of forgets that whites were also slaves in colonial America also. But hey, why let facts get in the way of the truth.

Anonymous said...

It was addressed Nov 1, 1864. End of story.

Anonymous said...

Reparations are in order for anyone who can prove that they were alive and a slave as of Nov. 1, 1864.

What about my dead ancestor who gave his life at the battle in Gettysburg, he paid the ultimate price fighting for the North, was that not enough that now I should have to pay?

Wanika.

Let me guess.

SHE is hoping for a check, too.

there's another reason you need to vote these aholes out of office. one crazy loonie idea after another and every idea is about taking money from those who work and giving it to those who don't! Think Bernie's an aberration? He's a product of the ignorant and lazy!

You are wrong. Slavery is actively going on in Africa and the the Middle East like Saudi Arabia. Slavery never ended. The British had slaves to work in the sugar cane and spice fields of the West Indies and Caribbean. Haiti was founded on a slave revolt with France. Check your history before you make an ignorant statement like that. Many countries before and after the United States civil war enslaved humans. Slavery is very much alive and well right now in countries like the Sudan.

Does anybody notice anything strange with Buttigieg’s Afghanistan deployment pic?

1. No weapon! We are required to carry at least a sidearm in a WZ.

2. No name tag or branch tag on his uniform.

3. No company patch or even an American flag on either sleeve.

Three strikes.

Bulletproof...so far.

My conversation on this topic is brief, brusque and conclusive. Can we say NFW here?

President Lincoln (his birthday today, BTW) freed the slaves on January 1, 1863. Since that date on paper, and since the Confederate surrender in April, 1864 in fact, all men, women and children have been free in the USA from slavery regardless of race.

Have there been difficult circumstances since for many US citizens of all races, and their heirs? Certainly. But those who persisted have moved forward. And we'll continue to do so.

Reparations talk is blamerism, and a non-starter.

1:26 needs to learn their history. America was / is not the only Country that owned slaves. The Black slave traders in Africa sold slaves to the ones coming to America. Also what about the White slave traders in England and Europe?

Reparation should be paid to me for having to support their lazy asses on welfare and for illegals the tax payer has to pay for. I am given no tax break for supporting these lazy con-artist.

Total lie. Slavery still happens today. Just not here.

Md.is run by Democrats so that loonie idea might actually get some traction, white Democrats are scared to death of blacks.

Anonymous said...

I'd rather lock and load and kill people in war than pay a single cent. I don't owe you jack and I don't give 1 single iota about your dead ancestors struggles or pain. How much more concise does it need to be stated?

I think the most important part of Q’s long post is the ending phrase.

Dictionary: clear and present danger

The standard set by the Supreme Court for judging when freedom of speech may lawfully be limited. Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., illustrated the point by arguing that no one has a constitutional right to shout “Fire!” in a crowded theater when no fire is present, for such action would pose a “clear and present danger” to public safety.

Wiki:
Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. delivered the classic statement of the clear and present danger test in Schenck v. United States (1919):

“The question in every case is whether the words used are used in such circumstances and are of such a nature as to create a clear and present danger that they will bring about the substantive evils that Congress has a right to prevent. It is a question of proximity and degree. When a nation is at war many things that might be said in time of peace are such a hindrance to its effort that their utterance will not be endured so long as men fight, and that no court could regard them as protected by any constitutional right.”

"Imminent lawless action" test supplants "clear and present danger" test.

Justice William J. Brennan Jr. redrafted the per curiam opinion, substituting for clear and present danger a new standard (Schwartz 1995: 27): “The constitutional guarantees of free speech and free press do not permit a State to forbid or proscribe advocacy of the use of force or law violation except where such advocacy is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action.”

The imminent lawless action test has largely supplanted the clear and present danger test. The clear and present danger remains, however, the standard for assessing constitutional protection for speech in the military courts.

What comes next?

Q:
Would control over[of] these institutions/organizations allow for the mass control of a populations viewpoint re: a desired topic?
“... did [D]’s and media corps jumpstart a [coordinated & planned] divisive blitz ...”
“... violent [masked] terror orgs such as Antifa immediately created/funded... “

They want you divided. ... Divided you pose no threat to their control.

What action might POTUS take re: the media collusion/ “lawless action”?

Don’t think nuclear.

Wanika "thinks" its possible.

My family immigrated from Germany and were oppressed.
I endure psychological trauma every time I have to go through Baltimore too.
I have been injured 150 years ago.
I expect reparations!

Truth is, every slave descendent lives a better life here now because of slavery than their contemporaries in Africa.
Period. So... stfu about reparations unless you want a ticket back!!

Let me see a Black politician asking for reparations for black people. What about reparations for all the white American males that we're discriminated against with affirmative action. I am sorry but we have to hire 60 minorities before we can hire you. And for about 20 years the Maryland State Police hired nothing but minorities to trty and bring their ratio up. So reparations for the black people that have had it better than any other time in history. I DON'T THINK SO.

Anonymous said...

So instead of bashing each other someone please explain to me how this would work? Would we as citizens of Maryland be responsible for paying reperations to all black Maryland citizens?? Let me tell you I'm pushing 60 years old and have some serious health issues so if this garbage actually becoming a reality I WILL go out in a blaze of glory

Anonymous said...

Today's black politicians are pathetic and very lazy. They drum up all this racial division for a little attention then we here nothing else. What ever happened to Harriet Tubman being put on currency? Crickets!!!!

Anonymous said...

Americans aren’t responsible for slavery it was England and African Muslims as well as Jewish merchants... Americans ended slavery

Anonymous said...

Absolutely insane.

I agree we should give Money to ever person alive who was a slave. Slavery was abolished in 1864 in Maryland. So if you are still alive after 156 years, give them money! But not family or such!

Correct response from any race: I’m offended that you would think I would take some hand out! I’m already offended that my kids have an advantage getting into college when they went to the same school your kids went to. You set our race back when you pass laws that make it look like we can’t hold our own without special treatment - like we aren’t capable of competing and contributing to our society on an equal basis. No wonder why so many other races resent us and it shows in posts like this.

Do we also give reparations top the several hundred thousand WHITE PEOPLE who gave their lives (which often tore their families apart and left them destitute) so BLACK PEOPLE could be free???
A whole lot of other white people didn't die. They just gave up arms, legs, eyes, testicles for the freedom of black people they never even met.
A TRILLION dollars of free rent, free medical care, free electricity, payments for multiple children (hundreds of thousands of black families have lived on welfare in subsidized housing for three generations or more, never worked a day in their lives), preferential hiring and student status, BILLIONS in student loans they NEVER intended to pay back, free day care, free school lunches, SSI checks for their kids who can't control themselves - because they have a "disability", which mainly consists of fighting and stealing everything not guarded at school, and a host of other free stuff.
THIS is not good enough??? You need MORE help from white people??
What's it gonna take for you to finally function in normal society?? ANOTHER 200 years??
Whaaaaatt???
You need MORE??

I think I got what you need. Come on over.
