Bernie Sanders told ninth graders that US actions in Vietnam were 'almost as bad as what Hitler did' during his failed run for Vermont governor in 1972

Bernie Sanders told a group of Vermont high school students in 1972 that the United States' actions in Vietnam were 'almost as bad as what Hitler did.'

Sanders, the 78-year-old senator who is currently surging in the race for the Democratic nomination for president, made the remark when he was running for governor of Vermont.

The comment was reported at the time by The Rutland Herald. It was unearthed recently by the right-leaning web site Washington Free Beacon.

Sanders, who was 31 years old at the time, was running as the candidate for the Liberty Union Party, which was an offshoot of the antiwar movement.

Pres Kennedy got us into the Vietnam mess. Johnson escalated it. Both democrats. When you are at war you shoot to kill the enemy who is trying to harm you and others. When the enemy is so wicked and cowardly as to hide in neighborhoods, hospitals, schools and other places where innocent people are, you still have to eliminate the enemy. It was the communists who started the propaganda that our troops were killing innocent people. The public didn't hear the other side of the story. Communism is evil. It doesn't belong in American society. End it at the ballot box.

Sanders is as far off base as Biden, he's not a Socialist he's a trader to this country and has no right to talk about Vietnam like that that is not respect to our servicemen who served and died in that war. What did he do when we want to war burn his draft card?

@708 It's amusing you claim this while American soldiers hide behind bombs from 15000 feet and won't meet so much as a farmer with AKs on the battlefield without that support.
