NFL celebrates Michael Vick as Pro Bowl captain in continued whitewashing of his dogfighting past

The NFL announced on Monday that Michael Vick will be among the four legends captains for the 2020 Pro Bowl.

Former Washington cornerback Darrell Green, Buffalo Bills defensive end Bruce Smith and Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis are the others.

Aside from Green, Smith and Davis all being inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, one of these captains is not like the others.

They didn’t organize a dogfighting ring that saw dogs tortured, electrocuted, drowned, hanged, shot and beaten to death, according to Department of Agriculture officials who investigated Vick’s Bad Newz Kennels in 2007.

What Vick did was bad. But Vick also paid a hefty price when his freedom was taken away for 18 months, he lost 10's of millions of dollars, and had an early end to his playing career. Let the man be. You would think you guys never cracked open a Bible and read all the parts about forgiveness.

He did his time so leave him alone.

Vick should be banned forever from playing, Pete Rose Baseball player banned for life for much less. And a lot of Vicks dogs wound up in shelters those that weren't killed in fights.

All is forgiven if you are a person of color

10:32 and 10:41 are correct.

What he was involved in was reprehensible. One could argue that he's one of the most penalized felons ever due to the combination of jail and lost income. But he served his time and has been a good guy since.

All of my pets, past and present, have been rescues so I have walked the talk.

As a player he was a very good competitor, but NFL should have foreseen that his selection would cause controversy especially since there are many fine retired quarterbacks without missteps of this sort.

11:54 Yes, For certain , NFL did not choose wisely ! He
can be forgiven but you will not forget the
cruelty in his heart/soul for what he did for
greed of money.
I have no respect for him what so ever , never will! .

Do you allow any convicted felon to move on with their lives after they have served their time in Prison? Do you continue to punish them? Many are unable to fi9nd work after Prison.
What Vick did was wrong and he paid a price for it. But since his crime was not betting on his sport as Rose did, then the NFL had no good reason to ban him. Although it was controversial when he came back, the public got over it.
Vick is back because the new breed of QB's play a lot like he did, so he can explain it better than the stick in the mud QB's can. Of course, if you find his presence objective, you can always turn on CNN.

He never did time for what he did to the dogs. Only time for money charges. Money can NEVER erase what he did. Mdme Karma will prevail. The public will never forget. There’s a special place in hell for him.

I am not an advocate of a man losing his career for a mistake - even one as heinous as this.

I am also not an advocate of holding a man capable of torturing another living being up as a hero, or legend, or role model.

He can keep his career. He does not, however, deserve to be honoured.
