Situation At Somerset Intermediate School

Dr. John B. Gaddis, Superintendent of Somerset County Public Schools

Please share!!! Please share!!!! Please share!!!

We have had a situation occur at Somerset Intermediate School that we want to make people aware of. A student in crisis fled the building and as the student fled a comment was made to some other students. The other students immediately told staff and emergency personnel was activated. The student was found and personal belongings were searched. A firearm was found and has been confiscated. The student and possessions are now in the possession of the Somerset County Sheriffs Department. We will keep everyone updated as needed but the school has been searched and no further issues found.

This is a scary situation for all of us and the investigation will continue. We felt the need to be transparent so everyone was aware and a robo call will be sent home.

I want to applaud those young students that did not hesitate to notify the administration and I thank all personnel from the school system and the Somerset County Sheriffs Dept for their quick and efficient response.i

Sad to say, but you are correct. I said it earlier today to a friend. Our children are falling behind in school compared with other countries, because of who is teaching them. I am a payroll processor at a school district. The handwriting on timesheets from teachers doing their out of contract work is barely legible. They frequently get the total time worked incorrect. I had one today that worked 4 to 630 and put down 1.5 hours. It's truly sad.
