Labor Day – September 2, 2019

Summer’s final fling has arrived in the form of Labor Day. Yes, most of us get the day off, but this holiday triggers mixed emotions. While summer still has 21 calendar days left, it’s time to get serious. School’s starting and there’s a sense that summer vacation is over. So what’s behind Labor Day — and how did it earn a place as a federal holiday?

Let’s take a look.

What is the the meaning of Labor Day?

Do you get weekends off work? Lunch breaks? Paid vacation? An eight-hour work day? Social security? If you said “yes” to any of these questions, you can thank labor unions and the U.S. labor movement for it. Years of hard-fought battles (and the ensuing legislation they inspired) resulted in many of the most basic benefits we enjoy at our jobs today . On the first Monday in September, we take the day off to celebrate Labor Day and reflect on the American worker’s contributions to our country.

When is Labor Day in 2019?

Labor Day always falls on the first Monday in September, which means anywhere from September 1 through September 7. This year it’s September 2 in the U.S. and Canada — where it’s known as Labour Day. However, this is not the case for most countries — the majority of which celebrate on May 1.

Now Labor has little power. We just have Jobs and your lucky to have one. The Fed should have threatened all American Companies with import penalties when they started manufacturing abroad. Now that other countries have an emerging consumer class with our jobs we cannot even retro fit or ramp up production here to meet demand. The days of a respectable days work rewarding with you a home a family and the American dream are gone. If you are lucky you'll be raising families in tiny state provided apartments and working for next to nothing. To think we were afraid of Communism what we have become is even worse.

Happy Labor Day

May Day is an ancient fertility worship.
In ancient Greece the virgins of a town were gathered to dance around a giant penis with streams coming from the top.

Hence the May pole (strippers' pole)

Truth is stranger than fiction

8:58- Don't lump us all in on your pathetic rant! I have a career and plenty of disposable income. I've never been unemployed more than a day, and that was my choice. We live in the best country in the world. Sounds like you need to try harder or seek therapy.

Probably what will go in the middle of the new round about.

When they asked AOC what "Labor Day" was, she said it was the day babies were born on!

10:58- Really? You think a statue of a penis will be placed in the center of the roundabout. Right. I don't think you're stupid, but your effort at wit is pathetic.

11:31AM, that sounds about like the answer she would give, lol.

Well my dear I am well retired and well invested before there were working jobs called " Careers"
People take their institutional and cooperate compliance's so seriously and we are no smarter or entitled than un-unionized Laborers. We we simply got educations and " CAREERS " with benefits and pensions a thing few will see these days.

Actually I thought 10:58 was pretty funny.

I agree with 10:35. This is a great Nation. Thanks to President Trump the economy is good. Jobs are plentiful. We lost 8 years of our good economy thanks to the worse President of United States Obama. We are back on track. We need to keep our Country great - vote Trump 2020.
