So what is that supposed to mean?

Shouldn’t it say “join me”? That’s gonna be one busy cop. Playing all that cornhole and whatnot.

Can someone explain why Pittsville needs a one man police department and at taxpayer expense at that? I am sure the Sheriff's Office can handle any calls in that area. Oh that's right, Pittsville's good ole boy machine at work.

It means stand by for the shootings, stabbings, thugs fighting , stealing and all the other things that the ghetto Salisbury has become. At least we have those lovely gay ,rainbow crosswalks to brighten things up a bit. Disgraceful!!!

9:27, I can tell you first hand that the County cannot handle Pittsville. Even Mike Lewis agreed in his first term that they needed a sub station there but never utilized it, as it was provided by the Town. I have had trespassers and a multitude of break ins and left Delmar Delaware to drive to Pittsville after calling them from Delmar and not only beat them there, I had to wait for them to arrive. Change is sometimes very difficult to accept but in my honest opinion Pittsville needed representation more so then many other small Towns here on the Shore.

If you follow the arrests in this blog, you will see that Pittsville has very active crime levels. Not the nice little country town it should be.

How long has Pittsville had "a" police officer and has there been a drop in criminal activity since his inception?
Just asking. Don't see how one cop can protect the whole town 24/7. I'm sure the unneeded speed cameras are generating plenty of cash flow for the town. Seems to me the money would be better spend on their failing water system

All things start small and grow bigger. I'm sure eventually revenue from tickets or seizures will allow them to hire another/more officer(s).

The fact is Mike Lewis did not keep one of many promises he made during his campaign. The towns of Wicomico County see very little attention from the Sheriff's Office these days. If there is no camera time for Lewis he will not be there. As for the one officer comment as long as one soldier is standing and fighting the war on crime is happening.Joe is right these rural communities have all the the city has. Time to get back to sub stations and less motor cycle cops another one of Mike"s ego toys. The need to get more boots on the ground and not sitting in the Sheriff's Office all day 8-4 Monday thru Friday is long over due. How many administrative deputies does a sheriff's office that size need. There are many qualified civilians that would do this work for half of what tax payers shell out for salaries of these well paid deputies. I have no issue with the pay but all 1st sgts and Lt.s should be on the road working shift work. This would increase patrol presence in our community. Community policing has gone to the wayside and was highly effective. Time for big egos to be put aside and get back to policing.

The police concept is a good one. Yet their selection in Pittsville is a seriously bad one. City councilman turned police Chief by appointment is wrong. The Md. annotated code provides that the establishment of a PD has to be introduced to the General Assembly and be voted on to carry and pass.
This police 'officer' has been a County sheriff's deputy, a police officer in Snow Hill, and other successions that ended in his dismissal. He obtained a surplus police vehicle which until accosted by a Wico. Deputy and told to get it off the road because it was un-registered. This came after a call from a female resident of a stalker whom frightened her in front of her residence, to the Wico. Sheriffs Dept.
If there is continuity in the process to establish a PD then is he a real cop? Does the authority as a police officer empower him as a PO to make legitimate arrests and swear as to the facts and rule of evidence in Court? Does he have the legal authority to physically affect a legal arrest that could result in injury or death?
The town of Pittsville better wake up and realize this 'Chief' may not even be a legal Indian and he could cost them the town Treasury in one court case in which they could be a party criminally and civilly. Nickel dime politicians always think they know best....Ha!Ha!

Even Mayberry had two cops.

12:24, you are dead on, there are more so called command staff walking around the office then deputies working the road, this is unacceptable, if they need to just walk around the office looking busy, put their asses in the sub- stations around the county, at least that way. they might actually learn what is happening in these towns.

There's plenty of police presence in wicomico county. The problem is most of the criminal activity is committed by repeat offenders that shouldn't be free. Lawyers combined with lenient judges is where the blame falls

Does anyone know how many deputy sheriffs we have in wicomico County? I'm just guessing ... maybe 125 to 150. Seems like plenty to me, then add on the small towns police forces, and don't forget our finest, the MSP

Does anyone know if the substation on Church Street is open in the evening? I never see vehicles there, so I wondered if it's only a daytime office.

It is just like everything else in this county. A third of the population lives in Salisbury yet all the funding and resources go there. So basically the other 2/3 of the county taxers have to support Salisbury. Come election time people WILL remember this.

If you go don’t drink the water.

actually crime has gone up in pittsville. because this officer has to justify his existence so more people are being charged for BS!

Anonymous said...

Police/deputies in substations don’t stop/deter crime. Ones working the streets do. Whether on foot, bike, or vehicle. Substations are good for bathroom breaks and that’s about it.

I'd venture to say trouble is in store for the Pittsville pd

12.55! Just look on the towns website and see the revenue the speed cameras are bringing in.Check out also the salary the town is paying for a rental enforcement officer and a code enforcement officer both of which Harris is the man being paid these salaries.Someone needs to check into Paul Wilbers 10 k a year fee to the town for sneaking this B.S.thru.Thanks FAT JOE and Whitehead.First we had Denver,s daughter steal over 100k and got a piece of shit marshland for trade to satisfy her debt now they are giving Harris a legal key to rape the taxpayers legally by Wilbers School of Law.

si you’re saying because he can’t be active 24/7 we should have nothing at ALL times? He has been very affective and is very welcome here. Why exactly do you say the speed cameras are not needed and then you say they are generating money for the town? If they are generating money, people are speeding and the cameras are needed. I’m very happy about them both because I live on a road in town and I’ve noticed a huge difference!

Anonymous said...

Bullshit! Prove it!

Anonymous said...

How much difference have you noticed in your water, that's where the money should be going. Pittsville doesn't need a Barney Fife. Your probably a transplant and don't remember when Willards had their own personal cop too. After some time they figured it to be a waste of resources too.

I can see that happening 8:08

Ain't that some shit. Wake up Pittsville residents, this is crazy

I think it is great they have a police officer. All these little town need one. It is called community policing. Those who made comments about Mayberry lol I think Andy ran a clean town. Barney not so much. I think some egos at the Sheriff's Office got hurt. Sadly it runs from the top down. 2/3 of the Sheriffs Office sits on their asses all day. If anyone wants the truth about Mike Lewis just talk to one of his swat team members or patrol. The minute I saw Mike wearing a leather jacket carrying a custom 45cal pistol versus the same Glock his deputies carry I knew this county elected the wrong person.
