Snow Hill residence raises rent, bans pets

Rick Gingery has called Pleasant Manor in Snow Hill his home for more than 19 years.

However, following a switch in ownership, an increase in rent of more than $100 and a pet ban, Gingery no longer feels welcomed at Pleasant Manor.

“We don’t even know who the new owner is, never met him,” Gingery said. “All of this came right out of the blue.”

Pleasant Manor was designed for elderly and disabled tenants and has received funding from the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, thus a certain number of units have been set-aside for lower income households.

To qualify for low-income housing, households must earn less than 50 or 60 percent of the median income.

The management should be ashamed!

I think that the pets should legally be grandfathered in. If they had the pets when they moved in should be able to keep them.

The place is an eye sore. Should have been demolished years ago!

@12:47 why should they? They just bought the place, they can change rules, and increase rent! They own the place! That is the one thing these residents forget .... they don't own the building!

terribly DIFFICULT, for seniors to have to
pay more and just as difficult to not be
allowed to keep " their best fried" .
How heartless of the new owner. I hope to
god they all can get somewhere else to live
that's accepting of pets and a lower rent
for them!

The owner is just trying to clean things up and get rid of the trash.

Interesting isn't it, as your boy mayor keeps giving speeches about increasing home ownership while he doesn't do anything to stop the over building of apartments, his buddies are putting up.

And he boasts about being a city planner. More like a ghetto planner.

Almost as if he were a liar.

If you are a senior and you haven't managed to buy and own your own home after 60 or more years of life then you get to enjoy getting screwed by a slumlord like the young people do.only difference is you had 60 plus years to avoid the situation young people don't have that luxury.

11:07 spot on, and the young people are paying his SS knowing they will probably never see a dime they paid in.
