Americans ‘Fleeing’ Obamacare Exchanges ‘Sky-High’ Premiums

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Seema Verma said Monday that Americans continue to flee the Obamacare exchanges because the “sky-high premiums” are too “unaffordable.”

The CMS released two reports Monday that found that Obamacare enrollment remained steady in both 2018 and 2019, while average 2019 exchange premiums declined by a small degree.

However, Obamacare state exchanges faced significant challenges for Americans that do not qualify for the Obamacare advance premium tax credit (APTC) and must pay the entire health insurance premium themselves. One study found that, between 2016 and 2018, 2.5 million Americans without Obamacare subsidies left the exchanges, which represents a 40 percent drop.

Administrator Verma said that the current exodus proves that Obamacare’s premiums remain too expensive for millions of Americans.

“As President Trump predicted, people are fleeing the individual market. Obamacare is failing the American people, and the ongoing exodus of the unsubsidized population from the market proves that Obamacare’s sky-high premiums are unaffordable,” said Verma in a statement Monday.

What do you expect when it is sabotaged at every level by politicians on stacks of big pharma money. Lobbying is legal bribery.

The costs are astronomical because Trump and the GOP have been slowly dismantling it and it's protections.... which in turn has driven up the cost.

This is absurd. It's like after something an event happens... writing it down and pretending that it's prophecy.

It's all pageantry anyway. Until our nation catches up with the rest of the first world countries and implements a single payer system, it's all going to be a big fail for the government, for the health care system, and for the American public.

Once again Dems don't engage their brains in the 2016 election Trump pointed out the problems with Obama Care, and some of these morons are so slow in coming to the conclusion it just blows the mind. What does it take a skyscraper to fall on their heads? Obama Care was a disaster and Obama was a disaster as president, he is the worst we have ever had he makes all that Nixon did look like a walk in the park. Grow up!

Wrong! The rates began to skyrocket at the onset of Obamacare.

I’m not in a hurry to join the rest of the ‘first’ world and wait months for inadequate health care!!!

It would be very expensive (full price) to add my self-employed husband to my insurance through my employer. When he tried to go through the exchange, they would not give a subsidy because he had access to my plan (even though it was unaffordable). So he had to go without insurance. It didn't matter that our income was within their limits, they try to force you into any employer plan no matter the price.

August 14, 2019 at 9:50 AM you are an uneducated idiot. Premiums skyrocketed BEFORE Trump was even in office. Mine went from 5K a year to 14K a year before he was even elected!

Enough with the fake news, you koolaid drinking troll.

9:50 Your whole statement is false. Premiums began to go up by the end of 2014. Insurance companies then began dropping out one by one on the state exchange. As a matter of fact Maryland is down to 1 insurance company to choose from and it’s been that way for the last 3 years. Unfortunatley for me I have to use the state exchange insurance program to buy insurance. I haven’t been able to afford the insurance since 2016 due to the high cost of premiums and deductibles. I am not eligible for subsidiaries. This article is spot on. And it’s got nothing to do with Trump. I’ve had to forfeit my own insurance so that my kids have it and my husband as he has had cancer. I went from paying $700 a month with a $2000 deductible for 4 people to $800/month with a $12000.00 deductible for 2 people. So please explain to me how it’s Trumps fault. And btw have you traveled abroad and had to use their socialized health care system ? Obviously not or you wouldn’t be so willing to implement a single payer system. It’s a disaster.

So, Obamacare made it impossible for a covering insurance company to reject people with an existing condition. So, I get diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and then I decide I'm going to sign up for Obamacare to get it covered....really?

Do you by fire insurance on your house the day after it burns down and expect the insurance company to just pay off?

Stupid people still think there's a free lunch out there.

For low income seniors, who can't get medicare yet. Obomacare is a blessing. I've had Good health insurance at low prices for 4 years.
One of the reasons I will not vote for Trump again. He's threatening seniors or destroying us.
All he wants are rich richer and put seniors in a grave.

8:41 Please do some research. Trump is not trying to take your Obamacare. There has and always will be options for low income people. I’m glad you have low premiums under Obamacare but do you realize the number of people across the US who have lost their health insurance because they can no longer afford it. Me included.
