Rep. Harris Announces Rural Development Award for Water Systems in the Town of Vienna

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced a $25,000 award to the Town of Vienna for rural development from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). According to the USDA, the “investment will be used to fund a preliminary engineering report (PER) and environmental report (ER) to study options for improving water quality and water system operations in Vienna, Maryland. The PER and ER reports will analyze proposed alternatives for improvement and estimated costs to determine the feasibility and potential environmental impacts of each possible solution.”

Rep. Harris made the following statement on the award:

“I applaud the USDA for investing in the water systems of Vienna. I welcome helping our rural municipalities in maintaining and improving their clean drinking water sources. We all appreciate the help of USDA in these ongoing efforts.”

This award is funded under the SEARCH -- Special Evaluation Assistance for Rural Communities and Households – program. The USDA describes the program as assisting “very small, financially distressed rural communities with predevelopment feasibility studies, design and technical assistance on proposed water and waste disposal projects.”
