Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson is making affordable and resilient housing a priority.
“We're having a significant problem in our country right now with affordable housing and also with resiliency,” Carson told FOX Business’ Stuart Varney from the Innovative Housing Showcase in Washington, D.C., this week.
The five-day event that is being co-hosted by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) features new building technologies and updated solutions for housing, that Carson believes can remove some of the “many zoning barriers based on outdated thinking.”
“That's one of the reasons that we're having this display, so not only that people can see this and disabuse them of the notions that manufactured housing are trailers and trailer parks and seeing what actually can happen here,” said Carson.
The houses are loaded with technology infrastructure, including plumbing, electricity and sewage without disrupting the “surface topography or the other structures around that.” They are also bolted down to cement foundations to add resiliency during natural disasters.

Try buying a lot and putting a mobile home on it in wicomico county. Between the ridiculous land regulations the state has for septic and the ridiculous rules the county has for mobile homes its a lose lose situation for anything being affordable in this county. Mobile homes are by special exception only in wicomico.
Grew up in one. Truck came, house assembled on concrete slab, moved in two weeks later. Cheap living.
I love manufactured homes we have had a number of companies who made them in this area for years. They were many models for what you could afford. The thing I always like is they used every available inch of space for real use. Ben Carson is not only a genius and excellent doctor he's real no fluff.
Regs. in Wicomico County MUST be changed to include Mfg. Homes, Tiny Homes, and using backyards for Senior Parents Tiny Homes... or small livable travel trailer. Too many people are falling between the cracks to get affordable housing. As far as Seniors are concerned; many want to be Near their children. Leaders must make it happen.
Delaware is working on these issues NOW...
@8:05 AMEN to that! All the so called affordable housing Jake Day is building for the thugs and illegal immigrants is not accessible to those of us that they consider make you much money. As a disabled veteran it pisses me off that all these programs are directed to people that haven't done a damn thing to earn them
Tried buying one using my veterans benefits and wasn't allowed. My one time veterans home loan benefits are good for housing that is a bit out of my price range, WTF?!?!
They should only be allowed in Manufactured home parks.
