Off-Duty State Trooper Charged After Pointing Gun At Another Driver On I-695 In Road Rage Incident, Police Say

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) — An off-duty Maryland State trooper was arrested in a road rage incident on Sunday evening.

According to Baltimore County Police, Zachary Tyler Bowen allegedly pointed a gun at another driver on I-695 after he was allegedly cut off.

“The driver, the male victim, he changed lanes and didn’t realize there was another car either in that area or close to him and there was some type of interaction,” Baltimore Police said.

Must be a video, you know they wouldn't take a citizens word over a state trooper.

"TFC Bowen has been a sworn member of the Maryland State Police since January 2012. He was most recently assigned to the Automotive Safety Enforcement Division."

Isn't being assigned to the ASED a kind of punishment, like the next thing to being suspended with pay?

That’s like being put ln courts at the Sheriffs Office. Yup it is the bone yard. Sorry he just looks stupid

OK so the other driver made a mistake, we've all made mistakes but that doesn't deserve being threatened with a gun. That state trooper should be charged with threatening assault with a weapon and if found guilty jailed and fired.

Like a lot of other incompetents, can't be fired so just keep them out of sight until they self destruct .

Yep, bad cop. Never should have been hired. So much for their psychological profile of applicants for the MSP. Talk about a bad hiring decision! The guy's face almost says it all. He is a genetic misfit. Look at the eye placement, the crooked nose, the weird ear. One could imagine that his mental condition is flawed, as well. To immediately put him on UNPAID leave is unusual for the MSP, and says that they are not standing behind this one. And they won't give law-abiding citizens the right to carry a gun. Yeah, right, but they allow / license a nut job to carry a gun and a badge. He is a bad apple. How many more do the MSP have (that they are protecting)?

Two sets of Laws.

You or I would have already had a SWAT team kicking our door down, searching for other weapons, and we would be asking our attorney to see if we can be out of jail by the weekend.

Jail would very likely be in our future.

So would a lifetime ban on the possession of any other weapons, too.

Keep cheering.

Good for him! Tired of stupid people on the highway. Learn to drive! Hopefully this will teach the idiot driver a lesson!

Fake news, cops don't investigate cops, let alone charge them...

Anonymous said...

You are 100% correct 9:46

Anonymous said...

9:46 And when has any video of cops doing wrong doing, ever stopped them from doing the wrong doing and when has it ever got them charged or locked up????? All video's every do is save the person being violated by the cops and that is it... You have to have an IQ of dirt and be willing to abuse, harass and lie and plant evidence to be a cop today... They treat you like shit, in the name of a paycheck or for them to be a coward pussy and be in fear of their life to murder you...

We're thinking unresolved anger issues here. How are things on the home front, son?

The POS thought he was the king of the highway even off duty.

Too bad MSP quit using the California Psychiatric Evaluation Test to filter out the nuts in uniform. Attaining the MSP badge is a milestone in the law enforcement career trek and not all candidates understand the responsibility and gravity of authority it bestows on any police officer state, or otherwise.
The CPE test helped evaluate the capability and mental state of the prospective candidate and predicted future conduct of them when contact with civilians was made. By and largely this wet behind the ears trooper demonstrated his immaturity when charged with said authority. Should he be allowed to continue to discredit the MSP if he 'flips' again and kills some 'alleged' bad guy...I think not.
I'm embarrassed to reveal the fact I or he wore the same uniform.
Instead of this preliminary filter the MSP has adopted a system to cover up these infractions and negative press by which they tend to 'justify' actions. What a misconception.
The MSP until of late had a shining and respectful reputation in the law enforcement arena nationwide. Now they're a third rate operation
that disgrace the badge everyday. Case in point, how many times have you been driving the highway at the speed limit and some rookie trooper passed you speeding and playing with his computer or talking on his cell? Can't he be at fault anytime? I witnessed a trooper Sgt. rear end a vehicle east bound on Rt. 50 at Rt. 313 and no charges were brought even though the vehicle who was driving legally seemed to have an injury. Second, two young troopers killed a guy in a van, stuck in the median on Rt.13 N/B at the prison in Westover, Md. when it was clear the driver was either intoxicated by drugs or alcohol when no weapon was produced or in plain sight. Both cases hidden because the Dept. refuses to realize they have 'armed nuts' in uniform and once appointed no in service evaluations are conducted to reveal their true mindset as they continue to loosely enforce the law. Retired MSP DTS.

I think the idiot getting the lesson is the soon-to-be ex-cop, not the driver of the other car. He was the smart one that turned the criminal cop in, and documented the cop's car and physical description. Doesn't sound like an idiot to me.

He will claim that he "feared" for his life and will get off.

Just look at him. He's unstable.

Thank you 2:00 for being honest and informing readers on the short comings of Maryland state police. I always suspected these issues existed.

Msp is one step above spd on the career ladder. Now let that sink in for a moment. Support your local sheriffs department!

Anonymous said...

LMAO because the sheriff is any better?? Think not

Anonymous said...

Yup MSP are nothing but ticket writers that take your hard earned $ I went to court one day for a ticket and the scumbag Baldwin was boasting how many tickets he wrote for the month he is a real pos.

I wish gov Hogan could park just off of Rt 50 around 730 am and 3pm and see how MSP are doing 80 mph on RT 50 to Salisbury.

Anonymous said...

Man I don’t care if they speed. Just get out of the way. I was behind a covert or unmarked car the other day on 50 that was holding up traffic so bad there was at least a half a mile back up cause the guy wouldn’t get out of the fast lane! Not the first time either! I think they cause more problems when they do 55 cause everyone is afraid to pass them. Just one persons opinion!

Anonymous said...

I'll take our local sheriffs over msp and spd any day of the week! and I don't like most kops!

Well Duh said...

55 mile an hour speed limit
were put in place during the 70s alleged gas shortage.

we should have route 50 returned to 65 Miles per hour.

the red lights at Wor Wic and the new one on 60 foot road should be eliminated

it's a highway ....hello State Highway

Well Duh, you do know that many portions of Rt 50 are 65 MPH don't you? And Duh, you do know that up towards DC, the speed limit is even 70 MPH on route 50, don't you? Federal regulations are still in effect for qualifying highways for higher speed limits, and traffic lights disqualify from limits over 55 MPH. The highways also have to have limited access, and no crossovers, or retail or residential access, without on & off ramps and overpasses. In places where route 50 doesn't qualify, the speed limit is 55 MPH, or less, as it should be. Leave the speed limits to the professionals and the highway engineers. They know much more about highway safety and saving lives than you do. Well Duh...

When you have influence you get jobs you didn't earn. Daddy a judge. Brother a commissioner. Whatever. I knew two guys I went to school with. One became a sheriff's deputy. The other MSP because grandpa was a judge. The guy who was MSP constantly got into trouble. Always being transferred because he was a pain in the ASS. Hot caught running around with a 17 year old while married. Still didn't loose his job. Other trooper's HATED the guy because he was PUNK. Well he finally retired getting PAID. The other still working with many awards. But he ALWAYS dreamed of being a TROOPER. Just didn't have the connections.

Anonymous said...

Every TROOPER should have served in the military as a requirement.

Anonymous said...

Agree. The military puts more perspective in a person, as well as a higher level of personal discipline. Yes, there is the occasional whack job, but the same applies to every military and paramilitary organization. Let the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard screen out the worst before they get local.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, because the military is SOOOO special. Just watched a news piece talking about the gangs, drug dealing, sexual assaults, murders and racism within the military. You need to educate yourself. The military has MAJOR problems within its ranks with its enlisted members (both men and women).

Anonymous said...

What a great idea!! If you do a simple Google search, you would know that AT LEAST 22 of the worlds most notorious serial killers have served in the military. Another “fun fact”, not a single Trooper has been arrested as a SERIAL KILLER!! You gotta love people who run their mouth but have no idea what they are talking about.

All they do now is hire brainwashed socialists from college with ZERO EXPERIENCE.

Anonymous said...

RT 50 SPEED NEEDS TO INCREASE TO 65.

Name call all you want. The truth is the truth no matter how much you want to deny it. Typical Democrat. Never wants to acknowledge the truth.
