Mayor Pugh Returns $100K From Book Sales To University Of Maryland Medical System

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Mayor Pugh took Wednesday off from multiple public appearances in the wake of an ethics controversy surrounding her time on the board of the University of Maryland Medical System.

The mayor also missed Wednesday morning’s Board of Estimates meeting.

A City employee sat in for Mayor Pugh at the meeting after she called out sick and canceled her weekly news conference.

This, amid growing concerns she sold the system, $500,000 worth of her “Healthy Holly” children’s books.

Her spokesperson told WJZ she has returned $100,000 from her book

Books that the System, in turn, gave to City schools and are sitting in a district warehouse.

All these politicians do is play the angles to benefit themselves. Amazing.

Giving the money back doesn't undo the crime(s).

If she was white you would praise her.

Wow, 10:01, your mind reading skills aren't for $hit. But your victim skills are sharp. I wasn't implying anything racial, genius.

Praise her if she were white?! What race baiting hole did you crawl out of?

914 makes no mention of race or political party. It is people like you who push a racial divide where there is none. You assumed that 9:14 was white and therefore must be a racist! Your comment leaves no doubt about you!

Why did she not give back all of the $500,000? The $100,000 is BS like she did something. All or nothing.

We do not praise corruption, whatever the skin tone. Unbelievably stupid comment, 10:01.

Why does the state not also investigate the Whiting-Turner Company, a company that rakes in hundreds of millions of Maryland taxpayer dollars for construction projects? Bet we would find a lot of dirty laundry there.

Only because she got caught

What about the insurance salesman on the board who bills the state for $17,000,000.00 in premiums? No bid contract that he approves. Nothing fishy or dirty here.....

I was thinking how fast she was able to get a 100k check. It's not like people keep that kind of money in their checking accounts and you can write one. Usually it involves a transfer.....unless as you suggested she wrote a bogus check that will never be cashed.

She said that the tax forms were wrong, that she only got $20,000 for each of two years, not $100,000 twice. But she "gave back" $100,000. What's the truth here?

She should be required to pay back all $500,000 and resign, since her city is horribly and needs a change! Has nothing to do with race, all about the loss of her city!
