Australian cartoonist Mark Knight was hit with massive backlash for depicting tennis superstar Serena Williams' US Open meltdown on Saturday in a cartoon for the Herald Sun.
Knight was immediately knocked as racist and sexist for drawing an angry Williams with exaggerated features stomping on her tennis racket with a pacifier nearby on the court. In the background, the chair umpire is shown asking 20-year-old Naomi Osaka, "Can you just let her win?"
But Knight is refusing to apologize and standing by his drawing, as are his colleagues at the Herald Sun. "It had nothing to do with gender or race," the seasoned cartoonist explained in a video for the paper.

I found it quite amusing and really depicted what took place, she threw a hissy fit cuz she was losing.
I like Serena, I think tennis does go out of their way to make her life difficult and I do find her portrail in that picture to be insulting. I am not some snowflake either but in this instance her anger is justified. It's not what happened that day it's what has been happening for a long time and this was the straw that broke the camel's back.
It would be like me doing a cartoon of Republicans, but making them look like Hitler and making light of their complaints about unfair treatment by the IRS and main stream media by showing them in a diaper crying. You would all be justifiably angered at that unrealistic portrail as I am of this one.
The cartoon was a exact likeness of her and her tantrums, I guess another stupid Democrat can't handle the truth.
Serena's behavior was an embarrassment, to tennis and to herself. To mix metaphors, she's playing the back nine on her career and this will get prominent mention when she stops playing.
That was an Australian cartoonist who drew the cartoon not an American cartoonist. Only White American Cartoonist can be racist against African Americans. Each country has its own racist race. .
