University System Plans ‘Full Criminal Investigation’ After Confederate Statue Toppled

The University of North Carolina System is taking action after protesters toppled the statue of a Confederate soldier at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Monday night.

“Campus leadership is in collaboration with campus police, who are pulling together a timeline of the events, reviewing video evidence, and conducting interviews that will inform a full criminal investigation,” UNC System Board Chairman Harry Smith and UNC System President Margaret Spellings said in a statement Tuesday, adding:

The safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff are paramount. And the actions last evening were unacceptable, dangerous, and incomprehensible. We are a nation of laws—and mob rule and the intentional destruction of public property will not be tolerated.

Here we go , another bunch of BS , nothing will be done to these individuals who destroyed this statue. Full investigation my a$$ ! All talk ! Don't hold your breath people , this is another college prank for the up and coming American leadership.
Why wasn't something done while this was taking place? Put your head back in the sand or up your a$$ where it belongs.

The criminal investigation will be as to "why the statue was put in place to begin with" and not with "the concerned citizens who took it upon themselves to take it down.

Thank you 6:47, I was ready to post very close to the same message. If concerned, where were they when this occurred?

If it was the students that toppled this statue, they should be thrown out of school and made to pay for the damages! They should also be fined for the destruction of property!

Just add the costs to their student loans.

The University Police were told to "Stand down" so the first criminal charges need to start with them!!

Joe post this story on black Confederated descendent and supporter who stood by the Silent Sam monument to protect it. This guy is a wise, American hero. Video included in the story.

Need to send a message loud and clear.

The University knew this was coming. Just like the Parkland shooter was known. Investors need to get their act together to PREVENT, not investigate after the fact.

It would pretty easy to stop this nonsense if someone in a position of authority would just take a stand. As it is now, things will only get worse when the perpetrators know there are no consequences.

When the Durham courthouse statue was toppled a year ago nobody was ever prosecuted even though there were arrests. This is why they felt they could pull down Silent Sam without any consequences. The local government is responsible for allowing this to happen.

Will they round up the usual suspects?

North Carolina, you can turn in your southern state card.

NC is like MD and the rest of the USA. The big cities are ruled by Liberal Dems and the rest of state is Conservative. Unlike MD there are as many rural residents as urban in NC.

Turns out one of the people who toppled Silent Sam also had a hand in toppling the Durham Courthouse statue. This is what happens when you don't prosecute criminals.
